First off, I just wanted to say welcome to everyone. I started coming to these forums before the game was released and there were a lot of people posting on here about how much they hated the idea of a mandatory app. Me and a few others would post about our excitement about the game - several of us had already experienced a demo of the game from Gen Con last year - and tried to talk people out of their bias hate. I was honestly concerned that the game wouldn't do that well with how many people had come online just to voice their opinion that they wouldn't buy the game, hoped it would fail, and all-in-all was dumb to make the app companion. So I'm glad to see these boards alive and thriving. This game has been a blast and I've played it several times a week since it came out.
To that, I'm just curious how many people think about the theme of what they are doing or how their actions reflect similar events from the game. I've played a ton of Enemy Unknown, and on about my 3rd play through of the board game, I had the mission card come up that had the picture of one of the UFO's that had landed in a forest, and the sole enemy in that ship was an outsider and I just had to laugh, as that was the first outsider enemy we had revealed and it just synced up with how it plays out in the game. We first encounter an outsider and it disintegrates, leaving us without anyway of salvaging it to learn from it. We scramble to get the arc thrower researched so we can capture this creature and study it and a few rounds latter uncover another outsider, but this time we were ready for it and captured it easily.
