Soontir Fel to be able to equip both Autothrusters and Stealth Device?
Does This Game Really Need:
I expect that Stealth Device will, over time, be replaced by Hull Upgrade (or even Shield Upgrade, for the spendthrift).
What problem do you see with it, exactly?

What do you think?
Soontir being overpowered, which he is. He was never underpowered.
Yes he is, but don't worry a fixed advanced and Darth Vader will take his place soon. Well the Vader and Baron as a set will soon dominate the meta without any doubt once the advanced is fixed.
What will the Imperial Homers whine about then? LOL!!!
hmm.. ninja myself...
Bombers... but the devs have said they are getting a fix soon.

It's beginning, then.
Run something that can barrel roll at PS9, if Fel scares you so much. Or start running Jan Ors. Or start running Ten Numb. Or just point your Falcon's firing arc at him.

Don't forget Blount. Wasn't he supposed to make Stealth Device irrelevant?
Autothrusters on Soontir Fel isn't that big of a deal IMHO. He needs it against Turrets but otherwise it won't do much. If a B-Wing, X-Wing, E-Wing, Tie Phantom or whatever will actually get a shot at him, he usually won't be at range 3 as Soontir is a close combat fighter.
So yes, if this game wants to see some Interceptors lists again, it needs them to be able to equip both Autothrusters and Stealth Device.
Decimator with Vader crew and Ten Numb with Veteran Instinct and a Mangler Cannon will laugh at Fel with Stealth Device and make this particular build (Fel+PtL+AT+SD)not that great in the meta. People will start to realise that undodgeable critical hit is now a part of this game and will start switching Stealth Device for a Shield Upgrade. Fel get back to the Fel he always been, except that now he can switch a blank into a evade when at range 3 or outside firing arc so he can actually be useful against a target without relying too much on dice, bonus point for not getting blown out at range 3 by pure bad luck.
Sooo.... to answer the question of the thread title: Yes, the game needed it.
Why is a ship able to fly erratically as possible and maintain a shot? Or completely disregard obstacles and throw four dice in any direction? Or how about, with one native agility, negate three damage a turn with a crew card and title action (and some luck of course)?
There's lotsa 'dumb' stuff in the game, but if it's all equally dumb, the field is level again. Scum has introduced a lot of fun, competitive upgrades and ships that will do much to cure the very stale and predictable turret ship + escort popularity.
And in the few games I've played with Interceptors since getting thrusters, it's never even activated. I've either been out of arc or the enemy never gets a chance to return fire ![]()

More complaining about things that have been extensively playtested, are well designed, will make a single decent - but highly fragile ace pilot a bit more desirable?
The top tables see no Soontir around here, and haven't for years.
Now we might get to see one or two..
People are running scared from the Phantoms, that which works against those works against Fel.
Or good ole' blocking.
Woop de doo.

Well, a Soontir/Whisper/Yorr list won the US Nationals, so Soontir has made it to the top tables before.
Soontir with Autothrusters and stealth device is still, one bad round with the dice away from being one-shotted. If anything the addition Autothrusters Soontir comes back into a game with Phantoms in it.
I think people automatically assume that Stealth + Autos = "YER NERVER GERNNA HERT MEH ERRMAHGERRD"
But as many others have emphasized what the card stated, there are two conditions that can be met for Autothrusters to trigger: be past range 2 or be out of their firing arc. And as scary as turning a blank to an evade sounds, the answer is as simple as aiming your **** ships at the Autoceptors.
Autothrusters is an upgrade that promotes skill in maneuverability. It rewards players for staying out of range and out of arc, the biggest gripe we've collectively had as the Falcon-Decimator-Outrider archetypes flooded the meta and people cried wolf because they kept getting blown up by the turreted large-based ships pointed away from their precious firing arcs on their squishy small-based ships.
Soontir will be harder to kill, but not impossible. I'm just glad they gave us Autothrusters to begin with so that turrets can whittle down a little (which they most likely won't) and we can see A's , Ints and StarVipers stand a chance in the competitive scene. We wanted a change in the meta, and this is what FFG has created for the meta to do so. I think it's a great card, and I don't even play things that have boost actions on their bar that often.

about as much as it needed turrets ![]()
In all seriousness, this isn't that big a deal. I've played against this combo and it is a massive pain in the ass, but unlike the aforementioned turrets it can be counter-played (forcing blocks or obstructions being the biggest means with which to kill him).
If you're having any serious trouble with the Baron, I highly recommend stress mechanics (which, incidentally, work pretty well on phantoms, aggressors, and even large turrets to some extent:)) that completely invalidate any and all green dice shenanigans.
These are:
R3-A2 (best applied via a PS 8 X-wing pilot with V.I and engine)
Flechette Torpedoes (Nera has a new calling)
Tactician (spammable on generic Bs)
The trick is not to stress willy nilly (though you can't chose with captive or tactician) but to deny the inevitable PTL. Sure, the baron will have 2 focus that turn of double stress, but he's also 100% ****** on the next turn (or out of the fight for a little while). If he chooses not to PTL, he gets a single action +/- auto-thrusters and if you can't deal with that but have yet to complain about Whisper...well...
Note: if you don't like the idea of giving him an extra focus to cripple him, use Wes Jenson
Having run Stress Wings for quite a while now (and having faced him in all but two games this week), I can say they make the good baron far less of a pain in the ass than he normally is, to the point where you can gun him down with generics ![]()
Word of warning, though, he might try to abuse stress you have no control over (Rebel Captive and Tactician if he enjoys being in your arc) to get a 2nd action essentially, but that's still better than "3" (action, ptl, stress focus) and will force him into a more predictable green maneuver next turn (remember blocking)
Alternatively, resort to abilities that completely ignore agility:
Feedback Array
Darth Vader (Esp w/gunner)
Proximity Mines (and bombs in general...Hi Emon!)
Oicuun
Ten Nub
Autoblaster (turret, preferably)
And I'm probably forgetting a host more.
Edited by ficklegreendicegod, is it that time already? I thought we'd get a least a few weeks before the sky started falling again...

Called it a while ago... Next in line is Vader with ATC and Engine Upgrade... totally broken! ![]()
forgot about auto-blaster turrets, fixed ![]()

If the sky isn't falling weekly, you'll start to see mass head explosions
Yeah I proxied autothrusters and stealth on Interceptors last week. Did they stay alive a bit longer than normal? Yes. Did they still die and did I still lose the game? Yes.
Not overpowered.

Amen to this. I faced Soontir w/AT in store champs yesterday, and beat him with generics because a Y-wing w/ stressbot landed an ion hit in arc. Boom.
Then Soontir with only PTL (No AT or Stealth) killed my entire list in the finals when I wasn't able to land the stress or ion.

Run something that can barrel roll at PS9, if Fel scares you so much. Or start running Jan Ors. Or start running Ten Numb. Or just point your Falcon's firing arc at him.
And there's your problem: a pilot that controls the meta. THis leads to a stagnant boring environment: fel + ptl +AT + SD, every imperial list. I've seen him more than enough already.
I for one am very happy to see Fel w/ AT and SD (or HU if you prefer). Since I refuse to play big base turrets, I'm only marginally affected by AT, and it's more of an insurance type of thing than an actual buff... No more random occurrence 1 shotting at R3 before combat truly starts.
And while Fel does scare me when I see him on the other side of the table, he's very susceptible to several things... 1) Stress, point a Stressbot at him or Rebel Captive or whatever, and he can no longer PTL. 2) Ion, this may be a bit more tricky due to AT, but more people are going to be running cannons and BTL-A4 anyways... Getting a hit through with an ion is as good as killing him. 3) Blocking, Fel has to do a green move every turn. He is not someone who can afford to pull a white maneuver to "surprise" you and live with the stress. As such, you pretty much know where he's going to go. 2 speed bank/turn (both can be blocked by 1 person), straight, or away from combat... Typically only 1 or two moves are going to be worth doing. Block it with your lower PS pilots and it's dead Fel. 4) Higher PS. If you haven't moved yet, he can't do maneuvers to get out of arc.
All of these things work against a Phantom as well, but with their decloak, it's harder to block them. And with stressbot/tactician, it's harder to keep them in range/arc. Likewise with ion. Higher PS actually hurts the Phantom more since you can both readjust and shoot at it against only 2 dice. But besides that, everything that hurts a Phantom hurts Fel even more.
I am all for Lord Vader becoming the badass he has not been.. YEAH!
