Creating Custom Characters

By hendersondayton, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I would love to be able to take the IA system and meld it a bit with teh character creation features of the RPG.

Has anyone tried to create their own custom characters for IA?

I was toying with this. Thinking of using the skill trees for class deck but find it harder to balance it

im on the same boat then you guys. at the moment have nothing concrete to add, just tinkering with the idea.

I've tried my hand at some, but my photoshop skills are non-exsistant. Someone over on the BGG boards made some really cool custom characters and posted them in the file section.

I vowed to play at least 3 campaigns before customizing the game, but I already have ideas for homebrew mechanics like reload, skill trees, weapon jamming, weapon wear and tear and new environment mechanics (falling rocks, exploding tanks, better grenade mechanics). Let alone new characters and imperial units.

Let's see if I can hold off for so long :)

I have yet to try the game but I've been thinking of how character creation could work since they started previewing the characters. So far this is what I came up with. It only focuses on stats, but it's a start.

Base Stats:

Health: 10

Endurance: 4

Speed: 4

Defense: Black or White

Fist: B

Eye: B

Tool: B

Character Creation Points: 5

Combat Role Health Bonus:

Ranged: 0

Ranged / Melee: +1

Melee: +2

Edit: I tried including the stat and dice break down for the Core game & spoiled wave 2 player characters, but it was in a table and the forum didn't like that very much, so I deleted it. Basically I added up the number of stats (19-22) and dice (6-7) and found a common number, 26. The Jedi & Guerilla were 27, both having melee & ranged attacks, and the Wookiee was at 28, presumably only having melee.

Mine would be

Vir Mortalis - Sith
15 cost
10 Hp

Defefence 2x Black Dice
Attack 2x Red Dice

Pierce 2

(s) Recover 2

Ability - Force Choke

Ability - Force Push

How do the creation points work exactly?

Here's a more detailed version:

Character Creation Points: 5 to spend on stats and dice (1 CC point per Stat increase, 1 CC point per Ability die added)

Base Stats:
Health: 10 (see Combat Role Health Bonus)
Endurance: 4 (max: 5)
Speed: 4 (max: 5)
Defense: Black die for tough heroes, White die for nimble heroes

Combat Role Health Bonus:
Ranged: 0
Ranged / Melee: +1
Melee: +2

Abilities:
Strength: Blue
Insight: Blue
Tech: Blue
(max: 3 dice per ability; min: 6 dice total for all abilities; max: 7 dice total for all abilities; no 2 of same color; no red die; must add a green die before adding a yellow)

Wounded Heroes:

  • Endurance and Speed are reduced by 1 each.
  • Strength, Insight, and Tech abilities have same number of dice as on the Healthy side, but the sequence is changed to Blue, Red, then Green (rather than Blue, Green, the Yellow). If the ability normally has only one Blue die, that die is now Red.

These rules work for the heroes in the core, and Biv from Twin Shadows. The only exception is Jyn, who is only 4 Character Points above the base stats/abilities.
