Scum Huge ship poll

By ldodt, in X-Wing

The. DP20. Is. Irrelevant.

I see you make useless comments like this all the time here,

and I think this one applies more to you. You also might want to learn how to spell.

While you're at it (" Thrawn Trilogy ") also to learn how to read.

Just to make my point I'll post a larger copy of the card.

Well, I don't know about irrelevant, but I think we all have to admit that it's ugly. It's no Star Jewel in the looks department anyway.

I notice opinion on it seems to be quite schizophrenic, sometimes people say it looks too much like the CR90, and then turn around and say it's ugly. That just shows their bias against anything not Imperial.

I don't think it looks that much like the CR90. It has similarities, but those make sense if it's supposed to be from the same starship corporation. As far as the ugliness goes, I think it's because of how modular it looks. It looks like the CR90 had sex with the Mir space station, and this is the offspring.

it having three times the armament of the CR90.

It's slightly smaller but it's faster and packs a bigger punch.

DP20 Armament

Double turbolaser cannons (8)

Quad laser cannons (6)

Concussion missile launchers (4)

30 concussion missiles each, standard load

CR90 Armament

Dual turbolaser turrets (2)

Single turbolasers (4)

I suppose it's really the fact that it shows up in stories you like that matters. I can understand that. For me, I'm like a super nerdy starfighter pilot wannabe, so sleek, aerodynamic airframes are all I care about - that and unbridled speed and maneuvering performance...and maybe a decent avionics package with head-mounted display with integral target designator. But other than that looks.

-snipped for content-

I'm sorry for you, I really am.

As for irrelevance, I've never claimed otherwise, however your patently inflated infatuation with that afterbirth of a ship is certainly of no relevance.

Learn to read.

Dp-20 was left out because I didn't want a massive pool of options. Basically I went for 5 ships that were defiantly in the huge range in scale and that seemed the most talked about in other threads at the time. So that's why DP-20, Hounds tooth, Lady Luck and others were left off. The Gozanti got in because it was very popular in my last poll and I wanted to see how people would feel about it for scum.

Some people like the Dp-20 others don't its all a matter of taste in ship designs, like most things we don't have to resort to insulting one and other because they don't share our opinions. It might be to much to ask on an internet forum but try to keep things civil. Id rather not see things escalate into some nasty slurs that gets the thread locked.

I won't be acknowledging any more of his worthless crap.

By the way, you're wrong about the Gunship, several of the modelers have made their own miniatures for it, and it has a good shot at being made for S&V because of many appearances in EU.

Criticisms of it being ugly are worthless as S&V ships are entitled to be non-pretty.

Whether or not an 80 dollar ship looks cool matters to a company whether you want it to or not. People rarely buy the CR90 as it is, and it's one of the most iconic ships in the Star Wars universe. I really want Tantive IV, but the price tag has made me balk every time. By contrast, they could set the price for the DP20 at 20 bucks, and I probably would still hesitate about buying it - let alone 80 or 90 or whatever it would turn out to be. So, looks do matter, whether you want them to or not. I'll grant you though that it's cooler looking than whatever the hell that gray thing is on the right in the second picture you posted. Yikes!

I'm just not impressed with the DP-20 looks wise. But I'm not excited about S&V so a ship that looks similar to a CR-90 isn't making be want to run out and get it.

Pulsar skate!!!

I see gabe69velasquez has been making friends and influencing people again.

Doesn't matter how many times we see those homebrew images posted though, FFG are never going to make a DP20. Fortunately.

Just to make my point I'll post a larger copy of the card.

Because if people disagree with you, the way to win them over is TO SAY THE SAME THING, ONLY LOUDER!

Personally, I like the customs frigate better than the Corellian Gunship.

I thought the gunship was alright in Empire at War when you had near limitless funds to buy whatever you wanted in a space battle and it was worth it for some relatively cheap support fire. But in this game, you aren't going to have fleets of epic ships and the price is far from cheap. While it makes sense for a DP20 to be on the S&V side, I think S&V needs a much more iconic ship than that. The DP20 could basically fly for any faction and it would make sense. I want to see an S&V epic ship that screams, "I belong to Scum and Scum alone!" That's why I vote for the Star Jewel. It's just too cool to pass up.

Now, regarding my comment about the DP20 making sense in pretty much every faction, what if they released one DP20 that had ship cards and upgrades for all 3 factions? So there would be upgrades that can only be used by one faction or the other and of course the ship abilities would be different. That might entice a broader audience into purchasing it without alienating people and making them say, "What?! My faction gets stuck with the DP20?"

The Space Yacht is the only one of the options in the vote, I find mildly interresting, (The rest look really borring to me). Throw it in a pack with two custom painted Scyks, Jabbas elite and a Jabba card. Some cool ability with Jabba offering rewards to scum ships. Maybe added abilities within range 1-2?

To be fair, it's not like anything he could say at this point would make me stoop to his level and choices.

It looks like someone glued a cardboard toilet roll holder onto a shoebox, then stuck guns all over it. It's goddamned awful.

Action transport.

It would be more Medium Transport in use than Corvette/Raider although it could gain teeth through titles and/or upgrades.

Personally, I thought it looked more like a styrofoam coffee cup than a used toilet roll, but your description has more zing to it.

But the Action transport while being different, which is good, look like a portable vacuum machine.

It really does! There are some fugly EU ships out there. I guess they can't all be Dunelizards.

The DP-20 looks like the cheap chinese rip-off of the CR-90. I think it should come with this guy as crew:

Knock-Off-Toys-4.jpg

My vote would be for the Action VI. They can do a lot with that ship.

I voted for the space yacht. I think it's the mostly likely contender for a scum huge ship because of all the great crew characters they'd be able to include on it (and arguably the most famous, Jabba, for one) for the scum faction. I'm not terribly crazy about some of the designs I've seen floating around the internet of it, but granted, I've never seen or heard of it before.

Personally I think it would be cool if they did a redesign of it to look something like these Hutt ships:

I'm sure they technically have their own class, but those look more attractively designed than most of the other options.
