Defense Token???

As far as I've seen, all of the Capital Ships that have been spoiled to date only have three defense tokens printed -but there is a fourth slot that is empty:

Do you suppose we will see them with the release of the bigger ships?

And...on that note, do you suppose it'll be a different type of Defense Token - or a double-up of one of the existing three: re-direct, half damage, evade?

...on another note, heck! The Assault Frigate Mk II can evade??? :o

Hehe, please discuss. :)

A possibility, but likewise where a ship has two of the same token it doesnt have the single picture with a x2 next to it, it has two seperate icons (as per the Victory class with 2 redirect icons), so we could just see a particularly nimble ship with four tokens using the exisiting types. It could also just be FFG leaving options open to add either in the future.

Maybe the ISD will have 2 shield redirects and 2 half damages :P

There may not be a fourth type, its just another slot, so you can have multiples of the same type

Hehe.

"It could also just be FFG leaving options open to add either in the future."

That sounds awesome.

I'm excited about what is yet to come. :)

I'll bet the ISD class gets 4 tokens.

While there are currently no large base ships currently revealed, it can be assumed the ISD and MC-80 will have four defense tokens.

Also if anyone is wondering:

-It seems the shield dials go to a maximum of "6".

-During one of the original Gen-con interviews it was mentioned that the max command value was 4.

-An engineering value of 5 allows a ship with a repair command and token to regenerate 4 shields per turn (ie. Tarken giving repair tokens)

I've always thought the evade token was pretty silly on all of the ships except the Corvette, which is small and fast enough lore-wise that evade token might actually work. It is just hard to imagine the Gladiator or the Mk II juking an incoming turbolaser blast.

Maybe the Rebellion should have equipped all of their cruisers with these tokens before Endor...

Who says it represents juking after the blast is fired? Even thought mechanically, you use it after the dice are rolled, thematically, there's no reason it can't represent the ship trying to get out of the line of fire before the other ship fires.

Evade could also represent ECM/jamming systems reducing the accuracy of incoming fire

I thought of those ideas as well, but both of those solutions are still less than satisfactory for me. Evading prior to shots being fired isn't really any different than what I was suggesting above; you would still need significant speed (sliding just out of arc as blasts slip past your stern) so it still more or less rules out most ships aside from the Corvette. Additionally, it makes little sense if you are, say, in the middle of a Vic's forward arc. That is a long way to slide to get out of arc.

As far as ECM, there are a few reasons I don't like it as an option. First of all, ECM should theoretically be the most successful against the guidance systems of missiles, which is the only range where it doesn't work at all. Secondly, the ECM theory would mean that evade should be available to all ships in the game, and if anything, should be concentrated on the biggest ships of all, which have the biggest jamming and targeting interference systems available.

I think it is clear from the speed of the ships in question that FFG is using evade to represent a fast-moving ship, similar to the way they use scatter to represent the speed and agility of only the fastest of fighters. I'm okay with that, but I'm just saying it is tough to imagine an AF or a Gladiator moving that fast. Or a Nebulon-B, which is supposed to be unusually slow for a frigate.

This is true, but I think they are needed for balance. It could also reflect the size of the ship as well as the speed.

They aren't evading the full attack, it only cancels 1 Dice after all. It represents the ship moving enough to throw off some fire from the attacker. We've all seen misses in Star Wars movies, somehow they lack an appropriate level of guided fire (as it is actually worse than modern guidance systems), so a ship rapidly changing height (z-Axis) or moving in a different vector could throw off a ships fire, since they apparently fire by eye-balling it.

Or simply listing lazily to the left. That move worked for Han.

Hehehe...1970's Guidance Systems!

I think that 4th Defense Token on a Capital Ship would be overpowered?

-especially if it could be used twice and exhausted. :o

Haven't seen this pointed out here yet, but I went back and checked the fighters article to refresh my memory on what this token does. The second token on this card is the Scatter Token, and negates all damage from a single attack.

Yeah, but I can't imagine an ISD being able to "scatter" - except of course when it blows up :P
