Imperial Side Missions or Forced Missions

By Lordfiredeath, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

A question for the veterans of the on going galactic Civil War. I am getting ready to start my first campaign as the Imperial Player and I am unsure of how the Imperial Side Missions work. Does the Imperial Player drop the mission on the Rebels at the end of the game (during the clean up stage) or is that mission played DIRECTLY after the mission the Rebels just played?

In other words, can you finish up everything from the mission you just played and then play the forced mission next (or more aptly in the next gaming session) or do you jump right it?

This also leads me to ask what all of you are doing to set aside your on-going campaign materials, so that it does not intermingle back with the other materials.

Thanks again everyone. I look forward to your replies.

The FORCED missions are played immediately after. I believe no xp or credits can be spent prior to starting it?

The other IP missions are folded in to the usual side mission selection process.

Just started myself so no Forced Missions yet. But the way I was reading it, Forced Missions are played right away. However, I only think a Forced Mission can be played(so far) when the Imperial player picks out an Agenda Card, so XP and credits would have already been spent anyway.

As for the Imperial Player adding Side Missions, you play it faceup as another Side Missions the Rebels can choose from.

ed: So, that was unnecessarily extensive, but since I typed it, might as well leave it at that. Is everything in order?

So, just to be 100% sure i got this correctly:

Mission 1 : Introduction ( Aftermath )

After Mission 1 :

  • Shuffle side mission deck (I think in the core set that means just leaving one card out, not sure, I'm at work) and Draw two cards.
  • Upgrade Rebel [spend Credits, then XP],
Upgrade Imperial [spend Influence, then XP]
  • Players choose one of those two SIDE MISSIONS , other card stays open on the table.
    • Mission two->

Mission 2: Chosen SIDE Mission

After Mission 2 :

  • Shuffle side mission deck, draw one card, put it to the one left from previous round.
  • Upgrade Rebel [spend Credits, then XP],
Upgrade Imperial [spend Influence, then XP].
  • Players must chose the STORY MISSION .
    • Mission three->

Mission 3: STORY Mission 2 (Depending Outcome Mission 1)

After Mission 3 :

  • No Need to shuffle the Side mission deck since there are already two side missions open on the table.
  • Upgrade Rebel, [spend Credits, then XP],
Upgrade Imperial [spend Influence: then XP].
    • Imperial player spents Influence to purchase an Agenda Card that has a mission on it and puts it into play next to the open side missions.
  • Players choose one of the 3 ope n side missions . If the Rebel players don't choose the Imperial Mission discard it's Card. The Imperial Player gets his reward. Other card stays open on the table.
    • Mission four->

Mission 4.1: AGENDA Mission (SKIPPED IF HEROES CHOOSE OTHER MISSION)

After Mission 4:

  • No Need to shuffle the Side mission deck since there are already two side missions open on the table.
  • Upgrade Rebel, [spend Credits, then XP],
Upgrade Imperial [spend Influence: then XP].
  • Players choose one of those two SIDE MISSIONS , other card stays open on the table.

Mission 4.2: SIDE Mission

After Mission 4.1:

  • Continues as above

Mission 5: STORY 2 Mission

After Mission 4.1:

  • Continues as above

...until you reach the finale.

Is everything correct (please tell me if not )OR is there no Mission 4.2? Only part I'm 100% not sure about ...

I'm sorry if I bother the forum with overly exact questions, but I've know my friends for quite some time. If I can present them a post in this fashion it saves us about of 15 minutes of unecessary arguing until they believe me. :D

4.2 wouldn't occur. A FORCED mission in place of the Agenda mission in 4.1 would be followed by a side mission but an Agenda mission that the Rebels chose to play would take the place of the side mission in 4.2.

so...sorry for the stupid question, but what for example is a forced mission? I haven't encountered one of those yet...

There are only two available for inclusion in the agenda currently (I think). Wanted and I can't remember the 2nd.

It's states on the card that you play them 'as forced missions' and you can see the details on that on page 17 of the RRG.

"Captured" and "Spice Mines of Kessel" are examples of FORCED missions. You generally play them as part of an agenda or it as part of a lose condition of another mission. It is played IMMEDIATELY, there is no upgrade stage between a mission and a Forced mission.

"Forced Mission", RRG, Page 17-18

Forced missions are resolved between campaign stages. After resolving a forced mission, players should perform the “postmission cleanup” step of a Mission Stage. Then they resolve the next available stage of the campaign.

If the mission occurs immediately after another mission is resolved, they resolve “post-mission cleanup” but do not resolve any Rebel or Imperial Upgrade Stages before this mission. The threat level for a forced mission is equal to the threat level of the most recently played mission.

Where in the rules it is stated that rebels draw two cards from side mission deck?

I had the impression that rebels may choose one from the complete deck?

Wouldn't this provide the aid the rebels would need, like yes get the lightsaber first or get the rebel troopers first...

How about if the first 2 side mission cards are to be chosen by the rebels and thereafter the cards are drawn.

I mean ... in the end the rebels are going to lose anyway ... ;)

"Story and Side Missions", RRG, Page 17:

After the introductory mission is resolved, shuffle the Side Mission deck, draw two cards, and place these cards faceup on the table. After each non-agenda side mission is resolved, shuffle the side Mission deck, draw one card, and place this card faceup on the table.
