Does Darth Vader's TIE Advanced automatically receive the TIE/x1 title upgrade benefit without equipping the card since the ship card's ship type includes 'x1' in it?
Darth Vader's TIE Advanced and TIE/x1 Title Upgrade
Wow..never noticed his Advanced is different from the others.
Sadly even though it makes perfect sense, there is nothing in the rules that automatically give him that advantage.
Since the Imperial Raider is not out yet, technically we don't know if they plan on giving him the title via a FAQ entry, but I very highly doubt it.
He'll have to have the X1 title like all other TIE Advanced.
And as it's a free upgrade, there's no reason why you wouldn't just stick it on him anyway.
If Darth Vader's TIE Advanced counts as an x1 without the upgrade and the Raider comes with two x1 upgrades, you could field three TIE Advanced x1s without having to buy a second Raider.

I'm pretty sure the Raider come with 4 X1 titles.

Vader's ship does count as a TIE/x1, with or without the upgrade. However, unless he has the rules text represented by the TIE/x1 title equipped to his ship, he can't make use of that rules text.

Yeah; You're right, it looks like there's four in the picture.
Which is pretty awesome on FFG's part, since you can't even run more than 4 in a standard 100 point dogfight (since the cheapest TIE Advanced is 21 points).
Good guy FFG! ![]()
Yeah; I'm debating buying some TIE Advances since they're in locally. Our local group has plans for an big Epic throw down once the Raider is out.
I picked up another Z-95 (3 total) and M3A (4 total) that I'm thinking of returning; not sure...
Quick, which dial does he use?

The real question is if a "TIE Advanced x1" is allowed to equip a "TIE Advanced only" upgrade card.
Ergh. Silly mistake by FFG, back in wave 2 before they realized just how incredibly successful this game would be...
It's incredibly unlikely that they'll disallow Vader to use the title simply because they added that little bit o' flavor to his card way back when. It'll get errata'd so he can be fixed, just like all his Advanced buddies.

Is it not still a TIE Advanced? It may be a slightly different TIE Advanced, but it is still one indeed. That's like saying an X-wing and Y-wing can't equip an "small ship only" upgrade. They're still small ships, just slightly different
Is it not still a TIE Advanced?
Well it is a valid point.
If you argue that Vader doesn't need the title because he already has a Tie Advanced X1, then that means any "Tie Advanced Only" cards wouldn't work on him. Of course by that logic he also doesn't have a dial he can use, since the dial says Tie Advanced.
I'd guess a future FAQ (and then future reprints) will have the Vader card just say Tie Advanced.

The mighty FAQ will resolve this, along with many other issues. We're in dire need of an update.
However, I doubt they'll actually go back and change Vader's card. Just doesn't seem like something they'd do. FFG has stated on multiple occasions that they don't want to reprint cards with different stuff on them, though usually that's referring to things like point costs, as opposed to something so frivolous (for lack of a better word) as this X1 that never meant anything until now
I'd like to see them beef up the advanced. They may have planned to give vader that extra something to keep him viable in the game, but didn't get around to it till now. With interceptor's, phantom's, and defender's doing 3 and 4 damage I just can't see fielding a 2 damage advance at that price. Even with a free accuracy corrector.
