Does anybody think that the development of Armada could lead to a new version of Warhammer 40k Battlefleet Gothic?
Battle Fleet Gothic
This I actually am hoping for. If FFG did indeed acquire the GW specialists games, I feel like Armada could be them testing the waters before BFG is produced.
I'm sure if games workshop thinks they can squeeze more money out of people they will make another version. I myself will never buy another product from that awful company.
The game looks great as is, but I prefer the 40k setting to star wars and there is such a depth of different craft that could be used and expanded upon I think it would be a great move by both companies
The only thing I would want from a BFG update would be simplified shooting charts. Of all the different tabletop games I played over the past ten years, BFG was the only one where I had to keep the chart near me to constantly double check how many dice I'm currently rolling.
Didn't think much of it when Armada was announced. I've been holding off on buying the Attack Wing stuff for some time, primarily because my gaming these days is mostly TTRPGs and Computer games, coupled with limited time to play. Both Trek and Star Wars look great, have great reviews and all that, but back in the day I went with BFG and a couple of fleets (Ork and Space Marine), I'm kind of committed - as much as a gamer/collector can be. Plus of all the SciFi settings 40K is probably my favorite. The Orks are pretty much painted and done, save one or two, plus fixing some broken bases. The Imperial Fleet (3 Ship) and Chaos Fleet (3 Ships) are assembled, but unpainted, as is the Space Marine Fleet.
I did break down and pick up the D&D Attack Wing Core Set, along with several expansion (Silver Dragon, Gold Dragon, Shadow Dragon and Stone Giant), and it's a fun game so far and I can use the miniatures in my Castles & Crusades game. But my intent is still to get a Sci-Fi Attack Wing Game.
I saw over at the Bell of Lost Souls the Armada release and followed some other links and discovered there is a video game coming out called Battle Fleet Gothic Armada. Sadly it is RTS, but it looks interesting.
That being said the name of course made me think of Star Wars Armada, and now I'm thinking that yeah, i do think we are going to see a table top Battle Fleet Gothic Armada using the FFG Armada Rules. Plenty of sculpts to use if FFG can get access to the catalog. The idea of not having to paint/assemble a BFG Fleet is pretty cool, the way they present the fighters in Star Wars Armada is cool and would translate well to BFG (better than the cardboard missiles/ships/boarding torpedoes or the Forge World Minis). The one challenge is will GW really allow pre-painted miniatures to be made. FFG was able to get the Talisman variant, Relic, made but had to use busts of 40K instead of miniatures. That is what i see as the big sticking point.
If they make it, I'd definitely be interested in picking it up. A cursory glance at the ship sizes in Armada make it seem like my old BFG models could still be used (remounted on the Armada bases though).
Edited by TheMetal1the sculps are horrible 80s stuff! more skulls -> moar betta!
Edited by madtulipI'm looking forward to the Battlefleet Gothic RTS game. Even if I would prefer a turn based game at least BFG is finally getting a PC game. I would love a new BFG tabletp game even if my wallet would hate it.
Heh heh heh.
Well, if they do ever decide to launch a V2, I hope I can still field the V1 miniatures.
Heck, I've still got my Imperial and Space Marine fleets - my friend who left to live abroad some years ago left me his Chaos Fleet.
I've got them all packed away in boxes for now. Hehe.
This would be awesome, and we could finally resolve all those Empire vs. Imperium threads, at least at the fleet level. Although to be faithful to the source material, Imperium ships would have 12 dice per side and boarding torpedoes full of biomagicengineered space gorillas.
