Bobas New Card

By slim chaney, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Just got my MW pack, yay Mr Postman.

Quick question, probably got answered ages ago when the cards were spoiled but I avoided those discussions.

His skill says "when attacking OR defending", this would imply once per turn to me. If it said "attacking AND defending" would imply it could be used during both phases.

Apologies if this is old news, like I said, tried to avoid it so that today felt like Xmas :D

you can't attack and defend at the same time. So or is correct, and does not mean once per turn. It means every time you are attacking or defending.

Fair enough, and I'll play it that way.

I'm thinking of "or" as making a choice, as in "do you want tea or coffee". At my house you can have tea AND coffee, but I wouldn't give you both.

:D

It just means "either this OR that" will trigger his ability. If it was "this AND that" trigger his ability, you could argue he'd have to be attacking and defending at the same time which, as pointed out above, can't happen.

If you can only do it once then it's specified.

I'm happy with what's been said, just needed a bit of clarity in case it was thrown at me sometime.

To have the last word though ,:D , I would expect it to say "while" not "and" if it was implying Boba had to be doing both to qualify. There is no option to attack AND defend, as i'm well aware and was mentioned above, so I would apply the use of AND to the two separate actions and still feel OR could imply a choice needs to be made. I also understand the use of "either" would support my standpoint, which it obviously doesn't.

Just my interpretation of the language and context and like I said, happy with what's gone before.

Thanks

FFG uses the expression "once per turn" if that's what they intend (see C3PO).

Thanks! I don't have threepio but its good to know there's a turn of phrase I need to look for :D

If someone asks if you want tea or coffee, "Yes" is a perfectly valid answer

They write "once per round". "Turn" is nothing but a type of maneuver.

Correct, I typo'd that.
