Newbie Question - Boba Fett (Most Wanted Clarification)

By Huntsman30, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Apologies for the newbie question (I'm pretty sure we were playing this wrong) but I've spent an hour or so surfing and can't verify the rules for the new Boba Fett (most wanted expansion):

My friend and I have only played a few games, though as soon as we started getting into it, we both went crazy and bought a ton of ships. Last night we had a 200 pt aside game and I used the new Most Wanted Fett in Slave I. I had Advanced Protons and cluster missiles with Push the limit. Just a few rounds in and my friend started getting disheartened and then pissed off with me.

I flew Fett straight into the middle of his clustered Fleet and started firing Advanced Protons and then later Primary Weapon. He had 4 or 5 ships in range 1 of me for a few turns as one of his ships was the Falcon and it turned into a swamp where several ships couldn't maneouver to break free.

Due to this, on attack, Fett was rolling huge amounts of dice on attack every turn and destroying a ship every round, while at the same time, playing green manouevers to remove the stress token from the turn before, then taking evade as an action and then "push the limit" to get another evade. My defence was a huge amount of dice backed up by two evades if I failed over a turn.

In a few turns (with the help of my two scum y-wings circling and firing protons into the mess) I had pretty much annhilated his whole fleet including Solo and Skywalker.

I'm sure we were doing a number of things wrong here and I definitely want to get it right - can you clarify the following rules questions:

1) Does Boba Fetts ability affect secondary weapons such as advanced protons?

2) Can I take multiple evades like I was doing or can you only take one of each action per turn?

3) Am I playing Fett right, does he really get that many dice in attack and defence when amongst an enemy swarm like that?

4) If you play a green maneouver but can only move about half before running into other ships, do you still get the benefit of the green and able to remove your stress token?

5) What other obvious things were we doing wrong?

I think many of your questions can be answered with 1 clarification: his ability only grant rerolls, not adding additional dice. And you can only reroll dice once each.

Edit: so to answer your questions:

1) yes, his ability works on any attack, primary or secondary.

2) no, his ability only allows reroll (again each die can only be rerolled once

3) no, same as above

4) yes, you still executed the maneuver, even if it caused an overlap.

5) well, for one, you can only take any action once per round, so no doubling up on evade actions. Not sure of anything else based on what you wrote. I would recommend rereading the rule book thoroughly, as well as the FAQ. There are a lot of things to remember

That helps alot - thanks - apparently both of us somehow completely misinterpreted that card!

To elaborate on question 3, his ability does not allow him to roll additional dice. However, it has the potential to reroll all dice.

It also sounds like you used the Advanced Protons more than once, but I might be wrong. You discard Advanced Protons when using them. And they can only use the forward firing arc.

But getting hin stuck in the middle of the enemy ships is definetly right. Just remember you can not target ships you overlapped and are touching.

The FAQ is a good read if you have not done that so far.

Thanks, No - just used the advanced protons once when first entering the melee.

I definitely read the Boba Fett Card wrong.

How about the "push the limit" upgrade, can you use that plus your action to get two evade tokens for the turn?

It's unclear whether or not this came up, but also note that if you are unable to complete a maneuver because you overlapped another ship, you are unable to perform your action step. So if Boba was one of the ships caught in the melee bumping, even if he cleared his stress he couldn't take any actions.

So let your friend know you were both making some honest mistakes, let him take revenge on you in a rematch, and have fun!

2) no, his ability only allows reroll (again each die can only be rerolled once)

Just to reiterate, a die can ONLY be rerolled once per roll. So if boba is defending with 2 dice vs 5 enemies at range 1, he can still only reroll each of his 2 dice once. If each of those 5 enemies attacked boba, he would be able to reroll his 2 dice each time he is attacked.
