If you use it, you can't shoot. If you shoot, you can't use it. Sounds like a great card for a blocker.

I lost last night to a 7 PS1 Z Feedback Array swarm (proxie) vs my Falcon/Ewing build. After taking a few shots at my and using it one or two times. He sacrificed some to block me and then kill himself to take out Chewie.

You need to be able to attack, but that doesn't mean you need to be able to attack that ship. If you land on an asteroid I'd think you couldn't use it, because you can't make an attack in the first place. Which is different than having no valid targets to attack.

It doesn't say sacrifice your attack, just says instead of making one. So I'm in favor of it working on asteroids

The wording does not imply that you need to have an attack to forfeit (unlike the attack: heading of 2ndary weapons, or more specific wording such as "instead of making your attack")

Probably FAQ fodder. Core rules say that a ship overlapping an obstacle "cannot attack any ship" That seems like feedback array would not work in this case. You cannot do this instead of something you can't do in the first place. If you can attack, feedback array lets you "choose 1 enemy ship at range 1" touching don't matter.

Again, since you can't attack while on an asteroid, you can't trigger Feedback Array. The criteria is "instead of performing any attacks", but since you can't attack you can't fulfill the criteria.

I think I agree with the thought process that you can't do it while on an asteroid, but you CAN do it while bumping. It's also fairly obvious to me that arc doesn't matter for the Array.

My two cents, ignoring the fact that I literally just found out you can't attack while on asteroids:

For me, Feedback Array is an event completely seperate from attacking, and it's more akin to placing tokens (e.g., Mara Jade). Whether or not you can legally attack instead of using Feedback Array seems unimportant.

Going by the interpretation that it replaces an attack, and I believe this was mentioned above, this would imply that you also can't use Feedback Array if there is nothing in your firing arc, even if there are valid Array targets. Too me, that seems unlikely.

Well that wording wouldn't work, because you wouldn't know when you're supposed to do it. The "instead of attacking" language implies that it's done when it would normally be your turn to attack.

If I have FBA on IG88 B with a HLC. If I am range 1, and miss with an attack from my primary weapon, I am granted an extra attack from my cannon. I obviously cannot fire the HLC a range 1, but since I have been granted a 2nd attack, can I use the Array instead?

No, because of the word ANY in the text:

"instead of performing any attacks"

That means that if you've attacked this turn you cannot use it.

You're trying to claim that not having a valid target is the same thing as not being able to attack, and that just isn't true.

If that were true, then turrets wouldn't work. Because a valid target is defined as an enemy ship with in your primary arc. So you would have to have a ship in your arc, before you could use a turret to shoot at something outside your arc.

Can I use the Array instead?

In addition to what CruzinToVictory said. IG-88B says you make make a second attack with a Cannon, that means you must use a cannon, and not any other weapon.

I come down on the side of it works when bumped. It is just logical based on the wording.

That reads to me as no valid targets, not skip attack step.

Feedback array would trigger before checking for an obstacle because it triggers before you attack. I choose to negate checking for an attack to do feedback array which discards my ability to check for an attack in the first place.

The word "instead" is usually a signifier of a replacement effect. In this case you would be using Feedback Array to replace your normal attack opportunity. No ability to attack normally = no Feedback Array.

FFG needs to stop bandaiding this game already and start giving us keywords and uniform templating.
