Imperial Patrol (5 Ties and a Shuttle)

By heychadwick, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So, I wanted to find a use for Fleet Officer. I just kind of threw this list together.

Omnicron Pilot w/ Systems Upgrade and Fleet Officer
Dark Curse
Night Beast
Backstabber
2 x Academy

I played a few games last night. Two were outliers, but the last game was vs. a competitive Chewbacca (with Lando) and Leebo list. It did great! It was a tight game that came down to the wire, but I pulled it off.

Adv Sensors let me give out my Focus and then do a green. Also, with PS2, almost everyone was in range starting off, so I had no issues. The Lambda isn't there for it's firepower, but a few times it did some damage.

The ability to give a free Focus to whomever needed it was great! They could either double Focus, or Eavde and Focus. I even had people K-turning to get a shot and use a Focus! As long as I was able to shift it to the ships I needed, it worked out very well. I was able to use one for Offense and one for Defense, or two for Defense when I needed it.

Dark Curse was downright hard to kill like this. You couldn't use your dice on him, but he could be given extra tokens. I usually didn't need to and could give them to the others knowing he was safe.

Night Beast was a real beast! He could do a green move, get a Focus, then Evade. Oh, and get another Focus thrown in!

Backstabber was usually on the flanks, but there were a few times I threw one on him.

The Academies did get double focus a lot....or Focus/Evade as they do get shot at.

Overall, it made the list a lot more resilient than I expected.

I know it's a dead sexy list, but I didn't expect this much attention...

welcome to the dead sobforum. Please leave a offering to Hades.

You really need to try this list out in real life. I hate Fleet Officer on the shuttle because it forces it to fly too fast and also in a formation, instead of cross position as a flank where I think it gets its maximum potential.

I tried it and it sucked. Hated it.

Edit: sounds like you ddid try it and didn't end up hating it. Still imo, I don't think Fleet Officer is worth it on the shuttle due to the stress.

Also, Howlrunner is an incredible offense boost. Give in to the dark side.

No. I hate Howlrunner. Also, she NEVER is worth her points. She dies too fast.

The shuttle is only there for giving the boost and it doesn't need to fly in formation. No one flies in formation. Well, on the approach, but after that, there is no formation. The shuttle is almost always within range 1-2 of another 2 tie fighters.

I'm sorry I can't take you seriously with this statement about Howlrunner. Either you've never flown as or against her or you've never flown as or against a good Howlrunner.

I think he could be entitled to that opinion. If his opponents are **** good and he typically flies her in a swarm of course the best thing is to kill her so fast that she doesn't matter.

Honestly, I love bringing a Black DTF with Howl if possible usually.

As to formation: I didn't mean tight formation, but at least a loose formation, mostly pointed in one or two directions as clumps. Otherwise your focus fire is too weak and you are giving up too much destruction potential.

The shuttle has a hard time with range and flying around other ships while getting attacks. So either you give up 21 points of attack (which is worse than losing Howl fast) or you try and make some reasonable attempt to face good directions. Which makes Fleet Officer hard, but not impossible.

That's a 98 point list. I'd throw a Tactical Jammer on that Shuttle.

I'd also consider dropping Night Beast down to an AP and putting Mara Jade or Rebel Captive on the Shuttle.

Listen to Nova Squadron Radio and they say the same thing. If someone is fixed on taking her out, she doesn't last long.

Also, I do like to fly against the mold at times. I think Howlrunner forces you to fly in formation and I just hate to do that with Tie Fighters.

Well, I did beat the guy who came in #2 at the local Store Championship with it. I did come in #3.

I found it wasn't too hard to keep the fight within Range 2 of the shuttle.

i effing hate green dice. thats nothing here or there....

sigh. if i didnt hate them so much and the high firepower that easily one shots ties, id play them more often.

I like fleet officer on the shuttle too. I have been running it with Rexlar HLC and a delta. It is very effective.

I love Fleet Officer. I've tried it with a decent amount of success, but I gave up for a bit because I could tell it would take a lot of effort to be competitive enough for Store Championships. It just flies so differently than I'm used to, so I'll need to fly against a variety of lists to learn from my mistakes.

Heychadwick, I really like your squad. A lot. The only problem I see is that "Dark Curse" and "Night Beast" are hard targets, and it becomes pretty obvious early on that the shuttle needs to be the main target. Shooting at "Dark Curse" when he has Focus + Evade or two Focus tokens will not be fun. Did your opponents clue into this? With 98 points it might be worth dropping a point somewhere else to buy Rebel Captive to discourage shots at the shuttle, but then again, maybe you want the shuttle to get shot to keep the real power of your squad safe. I don't know.

Here's an article I wrote on Fleet Officer, just exploring some options. My favorite list there is

Omicron Group Pilot (Fleet Officer, Adv. Sensors)

4x Alpha Sq. Pilot

99 points

I haven't decided on that last point; I see the merit of both Tactical Jammer and Intelligence Agent. I tried the Tactical Jammer when I replaced one Alpha Sq. Pilot with "Howlrunner" and I really didn't like it. I felt too restricted in movement, and she's not even a TIE interceptor anyway! This Alpha Sq. list is one I want to try running more often.

Looking forward to hearing more about Fleet Officer and her TIE squad!

He did not shoot at my Shuttle at all, really. He shot at the Tie Fighters. I wonder how it would go if someone fired at the Shuttle. It might save my Ties to do some damage.

I remember I gave the Shuttle Anti-Pursuit Lasers. It wasn't useful in any of the games I played, but as stated, 2 of them weren't good examples.

I was going to use this list at a casual event on Sunday, but I couldn't make it for family issues. I kind of wanted to see how it would work.

The shuttle in this case isn't the lynch pin to your squads viability. Take the shuttle out and it's still 5 very capable ties.

I don't imagine that it'd be wise to ever go after the shuttle first. It would take at least 2 rounds to destroy it, and would leave you exposed to chase it when the shuttle starts it's full turn. All said and done, it's a fantastic use of fleet officer.
