Proxies and What I wish was in Most Wanted

By GamerTnT, in X-Wing

So, I got my Wave 6 yesterday - my favourite is the IG88. He (it) will be fun to fly, though possibly not competitive. A big ship with no turret. Hmm, think the Shuttle pilots may have an advantage.

But, here's my rant.

Why include dials for ships we already own. I'd rather FFG had included more ship placards (or whatever they are called). Can I run a bounty hunter with an imperial dial? Why not?

I already own 7 z95s - I certainly don't need 7 more in different colours just so I can get the dials.

But that leads to the question - will it be tournament legal to use Imperial or Rebel dials for Scum builds?

Not sure how you missed it but the dials need to match your faction. Been discussed to no end all over these forums. So Z-95's can't do double duty officially. Per Most Wanted you can scummify 1 Rebel Y, ! HWK, and 1 Firespray.

You need the pilot cards and base inserts anyway, so I don't see why owning the dial is a problem. I guess it's kind of frustrating in some niche cases like 4x Binayre Pilot, 4x Black Sun Soldier, but that squad's better done with rebels anyway.

Because the whole point of the Most Wanted pack is to get a number of ships added to the S&V faction quickly.

1 Box of MW would let you run 6 S&V ships, provided you already own 1 Y, HWK and Firespay. They included the extra dials, pilot cards, base cards, ect... As a way to quickly increase the number of S&V ships.

Well, we've already repeatedly covered the dial issue

As for the ship bases and pilot cards, well they're there too. Most Wanted is a box stuffed with content and the idea that FFG forced in a couple extra dials doesn't really change that.

I dunno - Scum Zs seem pretty fantastic with hotshot blasters

You can, because the Bounty Hunter is an Imperial pilot.

Are you asking why MW has dials in it? So that we have ones with Scum artwork on them. If we used Rebel dials it's potentially misleading. Look at how much FFG keeps reiterating that Scum is a self-contained faction and how many threads we used get from people not getting that.

It looks neater and more professional than a mishmash of dials that looks like faction mixing.

Baseplates?

Each component gives you every component you need to run the ship in any configuration (sans upgrade cards). A dial, one of each pilot card and the baseplates for those pilots. To run a Scum Firespray you only need two double-sided baseplates, one side for each pilot. Why would they put in another one? It'd be redundant unless they intended for you to run two Scum Firesprays from a MW. But then they've not given you the other dial and generic pilot cards for it.

They changed their mind:

Looks like they did. 2.2.2 said you had to have the correct faction dials, but 2.2.3 says you don't...

This is a bit of a mess... I tend to trust doc numbers, but...

If you go to the main page they still have 2.2.1 linked there. They released 2.2.2 eariler today which said you did have to have the correct faction dials.

Now they tweeted that 2.2.2 was the wrong one and we should use 2.2.3 which says you do not have to have to the correct faction dial.

But seeing how that came from their official OP twitter account I'm going to assume it's legit and they changed their mind.

If so cool, but you still will be limited by the number of base plates in the MW box.

Sweet, glad to hear it.

Fair enough. They make the rules.

Agreed, if that's the rules then that's the rules.

I think we all owe TnT a big thank you for convincing FFG to change their minds where nobody else could.

Personally, I'm against the ruling. I'm not gonna fight it, but I think it looks tacky throwing a red dial out there with all your green ones.

So is FFG going to but back my open second box of Most Wanted then since I apparently don't need the Dials now? Really this is Chicken $&%#!!! You make a ruling by god stick with it!!!!!

This decision eliminates that restriction, which actually opens up more design space for FFG with future cross-faction releases.

Edit: you'll still want more than one Most Wanted for things like Warthogs, four Binarye/Soldiers, etc.

You can field four Pirates or four Blacksun with Leeachos and N'dru on top of that if you have spare Zs, what's there to ***** about?

You're kidding right? You're not honestly upset that you bought too many toys are you?

I'll bet you can sell it when supplies of MW are constrained, as they always are since FFG can't seem to ever produce enough of this awesome stuff.

Use whatever facton dial you want because you need to have the correct ship cardboard. There is a big difference between a binyare pirate and bandit squadron pilot. I own 8 z'95's and got 2 most wanted packs. I can still only run 4 scum z'95's because that's the max the scum z95 cardboard plates will let me.

Yes, the pirate is almost objectively better with that illicit slot.

You know you still have to pay for the upgrades that go in that slot, right?
