Little "Reminder" list

By matys2, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi All,

Just had a question for an upcoming tournament;

I'm not a pro and I haven't had the chance to fly all of my ships a hundred times or more. Am I allowed to have a small list that reminds me for each phase what the ships do and what i shouldn't forget?

Like: "DEFENDING: Remind with "Dark Curse" that the opponent cannot reroll and stuff."

Thanks for the help!

Greets,

Matys

I can't see why anyone wouldn't have it, especially in lists with lots of upgrades and abilities. I ALWAYS forget to stress people for cancelling crits from Kath with her Imperial card.

I used to do it for Warhammer too.

They have no problem with you having a list of all the maneuvers ships are capable of, I don't see why this would be an issue.

I mean, it's only a repeat of what's already on the cards, right?

If you show up with a sheet of tactics and pre-planned opening maneuvers, I could see that being a problem.

Hahaha. No it's just what's on the card and when it activates. It's basically a summary of all the abillities of my own cards.

I think you can even use third party icons to remind you of certain effects that have been or can be activated so that people don't mess up. Stuff like rebel captive, Mara Jade, marskmanship, that droid which increases agility, etc.

You'd be amazed at how many tournament games can get nitty picky about the timing of effects, or how often players "forget" stuff.

There are two kinds of "forget" stuff. One is the stuff you do that triggers other things you may not have wanted to trigger; for example using tokens to make an attack miss which triggers the opponent's Gunner. The other is just not noticing those triggers which should require an Act/Pass notice before moving on; the example here this is the guy with Gunner who should have to state whether he is using the ability or not before play moves on. Both may be bad play but with the first it is all with person who did something to cause an undesirable trigger but with the second it is BOTH players who are playing badly because the trigger should get an actual yes/no answer before moving on.

To the OP, make your list of reminders as everything that would be on it and relevant should already be on the board. If your opponent doesn't like it I'd have some words to describe your opponent but they aren't too nice.

I'm always forgetting to use Adv. Sensors on my B-wings. Or Corran's second attack. Usually I'll catch that one as soon as I grab his dial, and my opponents (who are always my friends) are fine with letting me take it since we haven't moved yet, and we generally don't clear tokens since we're just gonna put them right back on

At GenCon my friend ran Whisper. He wrote on his hand in big black letters, RECLOAK, FOCUS so that he wouldn't forget to do it after he attacked. No one had any issues with it, so I think a cheat sheet reminder would be just fine.
