Spark of Rebellion fan made sourcebook in the making.

By Drathen, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So Jaspor has graciously volunteered to work on this with me and he already threw down a great outline for what we need to work on. Jaspor and I will be tweaking the outline this weekend as well as the interior layouts for the outline and content.

We would love feedback from the community as well as anyone that wants to assist us putting this together since there is a good bit for others to work on :) . If interested, please feel free to reply in this thread.

I have completed the cover and can be viewed here:

I hope you enjoy it :)

Like I said please feel free to comment / volunteer so we can make this a great sourcebook for the community that likes the REBELS series as much as we do.

UPDATE: changed a few things on this one. I used the REBELS logo instead of the Edge of the Empire since this sourcebook can be used for any of the 3 games in the series.

UPDATE: work in progress / teaser from the planet Lothal page. Background info will be edited though.

Not sure if the words "Final Cover" are meant to be part of the actual final work, but the contrast with the background is pretty poor. Similar color oddity with the word REBELS and the phoenix-like background. Also not sure why REBELS is fully capitalized when the rest of the sentence is standard camel-case.

It will be the final work.. I will be using the official logo for the "Rebels" word which I'm working on right now. The background was actually taken from a High Rez concept art from the studio and not from the actual show so the contrast was used as is. It will be a place holder for the original scene or if I can tweet the scene and use it.

I was referring to the contrast between the words Final Cover and the background. Something, maybe the hollowness, makes those words fade into the image to me. Same with the color contrast of the word REBELS to the color used for the phoenix. That red/orange over the orange/yellow...

Ahhh I see what your saying. Yeah it will be all addressed in the final version when the guide is completed.

I really think its too early to start thinking about Rebels based sourcebooks. I would wait until the end of season two or maybe even three see if the show has enough material not available elsewhere to justify a coursebook.

I'd be happy to pitch in if you need a hand.

How so? The show is out, people are excited about it, if people want to experience things in the series now, why wait?

Forget FFG. If Disney doesn’t hire you and shut you up, they are insane. :D  :D

Look at how many ship, vehicle, and weapon models plus planets appear in a typical FFG StarWars sourcebook and how many have appeared in Rebels so far. Now remove all of the items which have appeared in official FFG books and I don't see much left.

Really depends on what all they're going to put into it overall, but even if they only have a small amount for right now, combining that now can make it easier for them later on to just add onto it periodically as the show and other materials come out.

It's been a while, but I'll gladly pitch in! If you need a résumé, check my blog and Cartol's Emporium (links in signature).

As for what it's supposed to contain, that hasn't already been made?

Well, I don't know about what the two behind this projects has planned, but for one there's stuff to flesh out on Lothal. Settlements, cities, people, places of interest (like the temple).

Beyond this there's the asteroid belt base thing, seemingly from the Clone Wars, there's stuff there to flesh out - even if some artistic/creative freedom could be necessary at times, although I'm sure there's a visual guide or something released and more to come.

And as Lathrop says, doing this periodically and starting now, might be a good idea, rather than wait until the show is cancelled/ended.

I applaud your efforts... Seriously.

But "Rebels" is a terrible, childish show and a real disappointment in the wake of the surprisingly excellent "Clone Wars" (that, to me, redeemed the less-than-stellar prequels). Honestly, it feels like Filoni is phoning it in.

Only the die-hard fans should find a "Rebels" sourcebook interesting.

That's funny because I enjoy Rebels much more than Clone Wars. I find much of Clone Wars rather boring and not much better than the Clone Wars movie, which was all right but didn't enthuse me like the OT. Probably why I enjoy Rebels as it has much more of an OT feel for me.

Don't get me wrong. I absolutely adore the OT. (I'm old enough to have seen all three of the films in theaters upon their initial releases.)

But if you're going to make a Rebels series? Don't restrict it to ONE planet, don't give me TWO Jedi (when, according to the first SW film, "their fire has gone out of the universe"), don't give me toy-friendly half-stun pistols/half-lightsabers, little fighter-shuttles that fit into the back of freighters, etc., don't give me utterly incompetent TIE pilots and stormtroopers, don't give me characters with zero characterization, don't give me constant slapstick, and please DO give me some interesting stories.

Plus, A LOT would happen in a single "Clone Wars" episode. Practically nothing happens in each "Rebels" episode.

But, look, these are just my opinions and perspectives on elements of the new "Rebels" series. (And I unfortunately can't stop watching it as I love SW.) If you dig it? More power to ya, I guess...

Opinions etc, but I couldn't disagree more. Yes there are "kiddy moments" but there were in our beloved OT also. We seem, as a group, to be much more forgiving of the original movies though.

But there are also some really strong character and world-building elements, especially in the most recent few episodes. It certainly isn't on the level of the average Disney cartoon.

On topic, whilst I can't really contribute much given the people in this thread who are chipping in, I'm interested to see what you guys come up with. Don't forget Old Jho's Pit Stop!

I'd be happy to pitch in if you need a hand.

Thanks Warren, that would be great! Send me or Jaspor a private message and we can get you started or see what your interested in doing :)

I can relate to you regarding seeing all 3 OT in the theater myself..so yeah I admit my age of 41 and have one hell ofa supporting wife to boot.

Regarding the series before getting off the main topic, we are only in the first season for one and alot has changed already. I think they are trying to be creative and open the market to many people let alone the old school die hard fan base. As far as " Practically nothing happens in each Rebels episode" I really would have to disagree...for the first season its moving very well in my opinion.

Thank you Jegergryte! Yeah no resume needed im familiar with your contributions to say the least :) I will send you a message this weekend with what we got going on and what we are looking for.

I think only focusing on one planet is very much a plot decision. The story is clearly showing the origins of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, and they want to center its inception on Lothal. Plus, it doesn't hurt the budget when they can reuse scenery.

There's nothing wrong with putting the material provided into EotE context. However, it's possible that AoR might be a better setting for this particular fan sourcebook?

I'm in Brussels this weekend (unless my flight gets cancelled now) and Plano, Texas next weekend, but after that I should be good to go. By then I should've been able to finish rebels and perhaps rewatched some of it.

The series very much combines aspects of all three lines. Good advice on making it agnostic.

Wow, some good feedback and offers, thanks all!

For those who have offered to contribute, one of us will hit you up via PM in the next day or two. (Or if you're feeling especially enthusiastic and anxious, feel free to hit us up first. ;) ) The contents are pretty ambitious but exciting I think, so some contributions are most welcome!

As far as it being "too soon" to create something like this, as a couple people have point out, there's no reason we can't add more to it as the series progresses. This isn't a one-time published hard cover book being sent off to be printed. This will be an electronic document. Updates can and will be made to it.

As far as which base game to build upon, that's a very good point. I'm leaning towards Edge mostly because it doesn't seem like the infrastructure and resources are there quite yet to support some of the ideas in Age of Rebellion. Duty, for example, means that as the group progresses, the Rebel Alliance provides some pretty significant resources. The Rebels of the show don't seem to have quite built up that sort of strength just yet. (Of course the season finale might show differently...) Anyways, I don't suspect there will be anything in the book preventing players from adapting the content for EotE, AoR, or FaD. :)

Thanks to all for the support and encouragement. I really think we can make something pretty sweet here. :)

I think it could fit all three at times. I'd make it game/theme/setting agnostic so to speak. There are definitely veins of all the games in the series by now.

Maybe I can play around with the Edge of the Empire title and just throw the Star wars rebels logo on it instead and have something like it referring to all games in the series....Ill see how it looks, however I do think on the same lines as well that it can cover all 3 as well.
