Hello, this is my first post, even though I have been looking on here on and off for the last year. I don't know if we were playing wrong, or we were extremely lucky, but we won our first 13 games, before having some bad luck and drawing Cthuga and Zhar right in a row. Was anyone else like this?
Winning Streak?
Well, it depends on many things:
a) what expansions were you playing with?
b) what AOs?
c) how many investigators?
d) what's the average gaming level of your party?
My actual winning streak is 29 games, with the last time I lost a game being a Daoloth + Dagon & Hydra game played with AH, KH, IH & MH in play (the previous one lasted only 11 games; personal best is 48 in a row)
Glad to see you here on the forums!
Winning 13 in a row is a pretty good feat, nice job. It's doable, but not easy. The base game is reasonably easy -- you'll win most of the time *if* you use good strategy (but it's still not a slam dunk). The difficulty ratchets up considerably when introducing the expansions. Zhar is a real meanie, without a doubt. He's rated among the toughest AOs to go up against.
Actually, I've played a little over a dozen games of Arkham Horror, and I'm still undefeated (let's not say that too loud, shall we?) , though abou neight or nine were with the base set only, which is significantly easier. It wasn't a cakewalk though. I beat Cthulhu, Yig, and Ithaqua in final combat, and my last game was a very, very close call against Quachil Uttaus. He would have awakened on the next turn, had I not gotten the sixth seal.

Bobfailathon,
First, Welcome to the Carnival!
Second, as Julia pointed out, there are myriad factors which can affect your run of successful games. I don't think I've achieved more than eight or so games in a row, as I maintain a healthy average of 75%-80% wins.
I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the game, and I wish you the best in saving Arkham and it's environs.
Cheers,
Joe
Edited by The ProfessorI used the base game for about 5 or so, then added DH alone for about 2, than IH for 2, than we combined them. We have had 4 players for most of the time, but now, I tought my two friends how to play and now we have 6.

That's a good way to do it and it's the strategy I used. The extra mechanics from the expansion boards add even more complexity to an already complex game. I think getting used to them in isolation is a wise move, before combining them and watching the REAL insanity ensue.
We have a game running now, we now are teaching the friends how to play IH, and we have Mandy and Patrice in the same game.

Whatever you do, do not get arrested. The hospitality at the Innsmouth jail is.. lacking. Unfortunately, not getting arrested in Innsmouth is not easy.
