so when playing in the tournaments, do we get to change our builds to the scenario that is chosen or do enter the tournament with one build only?

We'll have a better idea once they release tournament rules for Armada.
I was very tempted to post a simular question, but adding on to that: Everyone is analyzing builds of Rebel vs Imperial. Has anyone considered builds that will do well against the same force (Rebel vs Rebel or Imperial vs Imperial)?

I have seen a few briefly mention that, but again it was very brief so not really...
Going along the tournament lines this thread was started as I'm wondering how long a tournament season we will even have this year now that the game has been delayed until probably early April. That's just for the core set, I'm guessing wave one will hit sometime in the summer. So once everyone gets enough mini's to field a viable tourney list there will only be a few months before the worlds. Usually we have the store tournaments then the regionals and nationals. Anyone think we will get a tournament season at all this year? I still hope for a shortened one at least.

I would have thought it would be the latter. Part of fleet building is the objectives you choose and how your fleet copes with those objectives and/or any your opponent might have. If you could change your build depending on what objective is chosen, that would make choosing the objective less of an advantage (and choosing it helps balance the fact that you don't have initiative).
Same factions vs eachother is disgusting. Every tournament player should be required to have both fleets prepared.

There is litterally next to no chance that this will happen. FFG is not at all likely to mandate that players wishing to play in events have to purchase both factions to do so. It would be an absolutely foolish move to do so on thier part as it would only be serve to decrease interest in any competitive play and open them up to alot of criticism in regards to thier sales tactics.
I think imps vs imps will be really boring at this point, as there are only two ships. Come wave 3 or so it will get more interesting

How many different list configurations do those two ships, with the 2 varieties, and possible upgrades allow? At the very least more then enough to not immediately assume only having two ship types means overly similar builds at this point.

Well, actually, yes it does. I won't spend time going into the math, but even the addition of one new ship type massively increases the number of possibility in a non-linear manner.
That is not to say that functionally speaking it will work out that way. Number of possible lists and number of lists actually worth fielding are never the same. But since we can't say at this point much towards the latter.
I think Imp vs Imp combat could actually be very interesting. Bombers would be a lot more useful then both sides because VSDs(if used) would fear exposing their aft shields, so they may want to balance bombers and fighters. Overload pulse plus Bombers may be effective against VSDs. However, one would have to be careful that their imp vs imp list would also work imp vs reb.
I think reb vs reb would be less interesting because it will likely be a violent dogfight between fighters, then the winner of that battle will would likely win the game. B-wings would murder Corvettes and Neb-Bs, even more so if Tallon and/or Yavaris survives to that point.
