I am curious to hear how you guys have decided to store your game, anyone decide to not use the core box with all the upcoming expansions coming out?

I keep the rulebooks, campaign books, map tiles, miniatures (except my 2 AT-STs) and hero cards in the core box. It's just too big to not use it. The map tiles are bagged according to tile number: 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, and 30+ so far. Each of the hero cards is in its own ziplock bag, with unused skill cards in a smaller bag within. The minis are bagged together by faction: Rebel, Imperial, and Mercenary. Everything else: dice, tokens, etc., are sorted, bagged, and kept in a plastic tub that is about the same depth and length as the core box but half as wide.

When I start actually getting expansions, I may need to find another way to sort and store everything. The real trick will come when I start painting my minis. I doubt I'll want to just throw them in a bag together at that point. I'll probably need to buy or make a box with foam inserts at that point.

I picked up two base set boxes and I plan on getting foam inserts for one box, solely for the miniatures. Stacking in several layers, but not sure how i am going to deal with the AT-ST's I have.

And the other box I plan on making those neat foamcore inserts for all the tiles and cards, but i have a small plastic PLANO container that fits in the box for the tokens and whatnots.

Plano tackle boxes here! I use the 3700s since they fit the cards and models really well. These models are even less spindly than X-Wing and are perfect in the boxes.

I bought the 3700 case that had the 3 internal trays and the two smaller side trays. The terrain fits perfectly on the top of the case and all the models, etc fit inside easily. Even has space for the rule books.

All for the cost of about 1 sheet of custom foam... =)

I haven't done anything too crazy, but I took out the insert and cut it down so only one third of my box has it. It's also sideways.

So where you store your minis under the insert, instead of that opening facing down, it's facing the side of the box. easier access. Everything else is stored in the big open space. Works well for me so far, though I haven't gotten to play much.

I am in the process of painting my figures, so I have to protect them with foam inserts. At $16 bucks an insert, that cost stacks up fast. Unless someone knows of a better, cheaper way?

Right now I'm using a hard-sided case I picked up at Harbor Freight last year. It came with foam but also has removable dividers. It's working pretty well. I'll need to redo it when I get my minis painted. But I have tiles bagged by 10's, bag of minis, the AT-ST in it's own section, regular sized cards in a section and mini cards in a section. Books fit in the top.

Second this. Everything fits nicely and I'm not even using two of the center trays. Lots of room for expansions.

How does this fit the AT-ST? is there room for more than one? or more vehiciles in general?

The AT-ST fits in the top compartment. I don't see any reason why you couldn't get at least two in there, with room for the rulebooks, larger map pieces, and other parts.

I liked the idea of the 728 for storage so I went to Wal-mart today and while I was looking at the 728 i saw the 732 which was only $2 more. It's significantly larger and I was wondering if it would be a bit of an overkill. I was thinking it would be good though for not only storing/transporting IA but I could also include an X-Wing list or two in it and even a couple SW:LCG decks. It could be the 'Total Star Wars Transportation System'. I'm currently storing all my X-Wing stuff in a 1374 and I suppose I could re-purpose it to serve the same purpose as the 732. Anyone using the 732?

The question is if the trays inside are the same size.

The trays in the other box I believe are perfect for fitting the small cards standing up and the big cards on their side. This is the idal set up for fitting and organizing all the cards so you don't need to resort it each time you play.

How do you use those to protect painted miniatures? Are you wrapping them in paper towel, using foam, or some other third thing?

I'd like to know this as well. Do painted minis get chipped in this box? I'm buying my storage solution soon so Im' trying to figure out whats best.

I put the regular miniatures in the trays, in individual compartments, which are just wide enough for the bases. I'm not currently using any padding for them, and I haven't had any problems with damage or chipping. I've been using the same trays for X-Wing for two years now, and have yet to have a single mini damaged from the little bit of moving they do in the little compartments.

I am also using the 732. I bought the 728 originally because I just thought the 732 was just a bit to much. But after getting home and trying to figure out the best way to put the game into the 728, I realized it just wasn't gonna work for me and went back and got the 732 instead. I'm very happy with it. So much extra room for the expansions.

With a coat or two of varnish they are going to be pretty resilient. Much more flex to them then metal and some resins, so they aren't going to be their own worst enemy.

I'm probably going to use one of my Battlefoam bags or boxes for the miniatures just out of convenience. Would like to keep all the game components in each box though so the various tray schematics floating around look appealing.

Here it is on Amazon , but just go to Walmart. Amazon is charging twice as much, and you really need to inspect it for defects*, which you obviously can't do buying online.

*It's a great product if you find a good one, but Plano's quality control process does leave a bit to be desired - half the ones I checked across two stores had issues. The most common issue you want to look out for is the main tray compartment door being too loose - pick it up, hold it with the front pointing down, and vigorously shake it. If the trays stay in, you're good. I also encountered one with a broken hinge on the top compartment (actually they straight-up forgot to put the metal rod in that holds the hinge together), so watch out for that too. Finally you want to make sure it actually has all five trays, though I suspect this is less an issue of Plano's deficient QC and more to do with shoplifters.
