Guri with Advanced Proton Torpedoes

By Rogue Dakotan, in X-Wing

I think Guri could be a great platform for APT.

Give her PTL so she can target lock, and then boost or barrel roll into range one of her target, which will then get her a free focus token she needs to make the shot work.

I haven't flown the star viper yet, but the dial seems good enough that it shouldn't be too hard to sneak into range one of someone like that.

She might be the best platform for the APTs yet.

Huh, hadn't thought of that yet.

It would be fun to play around with for sure! The one drawback is how crazy expensive APT's are. I've put them on Nera Dantels with Deadeye and Recon Specialist though and it has the added benefit of terrifying your opponent into running away from her.

I've tried it, actually. If you're interested in using an APT, she's probably one of the nastiest platforms for it in the game. The real problem is they're still not very cost-effective, so other than the intimidation factor it doesn't work out terribly well.

I'm not sold on PtL for starvipers. They only have 1 more green than standard (1 & 2 straight, 1 bank), and the number of great white maneuvers would be wasted if you are limited to greens. If you are running APTs, I'd just throw on the Virago title and FCS for the target lock. That would have the added benefit of consistent TL+F attacks with some boost/BR actions.

I never really paid torpedoes much attention, but I happened to read APTs at the same time I was skimming the preview that showed Guri's ability, and the two "clicked" in my head right away. It looks really solid, and I think it adds a solid alpha to her.

I'm thinking Guri and Boba will just be fun to play, sometimes. Load 'em both up with a ton of upgrades and fly right into the heart of an enemy formation. Maybe not the most effective list ever, all Mathwinged up and stuff, but I think it'll be a fun way to break the routine sometimes.

Guri is looking like the breakout pilot of the starviper pack.

Oh yeah. Forgot about FCS. That would an even more efficient way to make this happen. :)

So far in my vassal test games... I'm really digging S&V Boba. Getting rerolls on both the attack and defense dice is so nice.

Guri with Proton Rockets, though, that is a sure fire good thing.

I DO like the APT for the almost guarantee of 5 damage, but Proton Rocket always seems to perform really well, netting 5 hits quite frequently, and is 3 pts cheaper.

I think I'd run...

Predator + Proton Rockets on Guri, with pts some where for a sensor or illicit upgrade, that's the part im not sure about. Guri's ability lets you get around the need for action giving upgrades. Totally seems like an Evade action using ship.

Prockets are missiles, not torps.

She does seem like another good candidate for APTs. I kind of think that the Heavy Scyks might also be an option there (Tansariis only, unfortunately).

I dunno, I like the options Advanced Sensors gives you instead, in that Upgrade slot (and depending on what cards you've got, obviously). I want to maximize the mobility of the Starviper, and especially with PtL, I think Sensors is the way to do that. Especially if you plan on just flying into the furball and then trying to make stuff happen, Sensors seem really important to keep from getting action-blocked.

Guri can't equip proton rockets though.

True.

Having a lock on someone and then Slooping behind them, getting your free focus, and blasting them with the APTs sounds really satisfying.

The only thing I dislike is her PS. At 5, she's good enough to maul generics, but most named pilots will be able to avoid giving her that range 1 spot.

The thing with Guri and blocking is that unless you want to shoot at the blocker, blocking would guarantee a free focus.

A Tansarrii is 25 points with an APT. That's not including an EPT. A little too fragile to be a one trick pony. I think they are much better with Prockets. A Cartel Spacer with a Procket is only 19 points.

Too bad Adrenaline Rush doesn't work with Inertial Dampeners. ID has you perform a white stop maneuver and then receive a stress token. AR only works on a red maneuver. It would still allow you to perform an action after a segnor though.

Dang it!!!!!

I'm with Vorpal on it not being cost effective at standard 100. However in Epic give her the Nuke.

Yeah, I figured it would be good for the S-loop, once a game give you that action to move. Not bad for 1 point.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying "don't do it". The amount of fun inherent in pulling up at range one of someone and going "Heh. Heh, heh. Heh, heh, HEH HEH MWA HA HA HA BOOOOM!" shouldn't be underestimated. But it's not something I expect to win me the match unless I get lucky and nail some critical piece of my opponent's list.

I loved using the Calculation EPT on Guri. Doing an S-turn into Range 1 getting a free focus and then rolling hit, hit, hit, Focus was just awesome. It also keeps her really cheap compared to other versions of Guri.

I was thinking of trying this list, I call it "Hammer and Anvil." I'm a little leery of the mid range PS though. The idea is that Emon stays at range 3 and controls the battlezone with prox mines and his HLC. Meanwhile, Guri dives in and knife-fights at Range 1.

Looks like a fun list if nothing else :) But you might find the inertial dampers work better on Emon then Guri.
