Guri with Advanced Proton Torpedoes

By Rogue Dakotan, in X-Wing

You know what really hates APTs? Decimators. You know what's really dominating the meta right now? Oh yes, Decimators.

Guri with Thrusters and APTs *loves* them though.

The thought with the inertial dampers on Guri was that it allows her another option to stay in Range 1.

It is kind of fun to picture her swooping up behind a Lambda, the Lambda hitting the brakes and assuming he's gonna force a bump, and then Guri also pulling a 0 move and staying right on his butt.

"Aww, nuts."

*attack dice roll*

It allows her another option to stay in Range 1.

I get that, but with PS5, you may never know if you should use it or not. I was thinking if you want to keep the HLC out at range 3 it might be more useful there.

I'm with Vorpal on it not being cost effective at standard 100. However in Epic give her the Nuke.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying "don't do it". The amount of fun inherent in pulling up at range one of someone and going "Heh. Heh, heh. Heh, heh, HEH HEH MWA HA HA HA BOOOOM!" shouldn't be underestimated. But it's not something I expect to win me the match unless I get lucky and nail some critical piece of my opponent's list.

Yeah, it seems hard to set up, but if you can get the focus for it, it should do a bunch of damage. The problem is that those pesky green dice are pesky both ways. Getting 4-5 hits on APTs isn't unreasonable, but getting 4-5 damage is less reliable. BUT! If you do manage to connect a bunch of hits, you could be trading 6 points for 12-30 of your opponent's points. That's a solid exchange.

PtL makes sense to get the focus/TL on the same turn, but what about Outmaneuver to deny a green die from the attacker?

Unless she were paired with another ship that happened to have Intel Agent on-board.

I like outmaneuver here, with access to sloops, and apt requiring range 1, adv sensors lets you lock on any given turn, you'll get the free focus, if you can be out of arc, it's even better.

Oh yes it's great when you can get those puppies off and blow something up If you do need points elsewhere for the squad at 100 I'd have no problem dropping them and this is someone who loves trying to fly Alphabombers.

Hmmm, if only there was a way to reduce your chosen targets PS that turn.

Torkil is great, but his ability activates at the end of the activation phase.

Combine Torkil and Intel Agent however... oh yeah. :)

Yeah, I was just being a smartass.

To be fair, I totally thought of Torkil also. He is just so much fun.

It is another viable way to field APT.

I have tried APT with Farlander and while it does work it isn't all that great. That is still 6 points for only 5 dice rolls. Sure you are guaranteed 3 hits that can still be canceled by 3 evades.

Part of the point of using Guri is that she doesn't need Push the Limit: she acquires a target lock as an action, and gets a focus from her ability. Outmaneuver is good for the APT round, but for other rounds I still like Predator. Calculation is pretty effective on her, too, since she'll rarely be without a token to activate it.

People act like if you're not PS7+ then your PS doesn't matter.

PS5 means she's acting after, and shooting before, every single generic. Flat. When you're packing Boost and Barrel Roll and throwing a minimum of 4 red dice at R1, that's incredibly significant.

Since she does great without PTL benefiting from free focus and target locks, allowing her to post-dial move at will, that opens up the option of VI if you wanted, which puts her at initiative bid level with Dash, Lando and higher than others like Biggs and Kenkirk.

Are you beating Whisper? No. But you still outmatch 90% of pilots in the game.

A nice combo, true. But you are effectively paying 6points for one extra red die.

It could work nice and then the pesky green dice could steal your lunch money...

I still feel Rhymer is the best APT pilot, if only he wasn't over costed.....ho hum

6pts for one extra red die, but doubling your damage!

Here is what I have been runing so far. Though the idea of squeezing in APT seems nice. With guri you can swap the PS 10 taking care of phantoms with hot shot blaster a focus and TL from either ship

Yeah Rhymer with PTL is still the most reliable APT platform delivery platform, but he's also 35 points. Once he delivers his payload he's a 35 point two attack ship. I might stop using him as a coaster when Epic becomes more of a thing. Currently he is simply unusable in a 100 point format.

The only thing I dislike is her PS. At 5, she's good enough to maul generics, but most named pilots will be able to avoid giving her that range 1 spot.

A high PS wingman with Squad leader will do the trick - save her BR/boost, then activate 1 with SL then she can PTL for the other.

It's a bit of a one-trick-pony tho, as soon as your opponent sees you do this once, the ship carrying SL is toast, but with Adv torps it only has to work once.
