Bounty Hunting

By signoftheserpent, in X-Wing

I played the mission that comes with IG 2000 last night with 2 friends, curiously they noticed that the point costs for the Falcon and Slave builds were way off. Is this a mistake or had I misread something?

Points costs in wargames are subjective things.

I imagine that the points costs for 'basic' games are as they are as an ability or upgrade is very situational

Something that pays for itself in one game (say VI which gives you the edge when you'd otherwise be tying) is useless in others (lets say you have a lot of named pilots and your opponent takes 8 academys) but the points cost have to reflect their *average* usefulness.

Its probably the came that after playtesting they found out that those combinations are more balanced in this environment. As the situation is more stable (ie 50 per cent of each list is one huge ship), you're not unsure whether you're going to face two elite ships or an 8 ship swarm.

What i mean is that the listed cost for the builds provided do not equal the points cost that accompanies them, as we found it. I'm trying to find out if I missed something in the set up. IG2000 is a much cheaper ship than the Falcon and that's before you start equipping the Falcon with pilots and whatnot. Ultimately it's not a huge deal since you can just do what you like.

Yeah, I noticed that last night when I opened my Aggressors. The insert says the prebuilt squads are 48, 47, and 49, but in reality, they are like 52, 53, and 51.

Boba Fett (39)

-Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

-Seismic Charges (2)

-Stealth Device (3)

-Determination (1)

Han Solo (46)

-Elusiveness (2)

-Chewbacca (4)

-Millennium Falcon (1)

IG-88B (36)

-Ion Cannon (3)

-"Mangler" Cannon (4)

-Accuracy Corrector (3)

-"Hot Shot" Blaster (3)

-Seismic Charges (2)

-IG-2000 (0)

Just to clarify, each player gets the listed prebuilt Squad Leader AND the listed points, for a total of 100 points. For example, the Imperial player gets a 52-point Boba Fett and 48 additional squad points to build with.

Wow. I is so can't not reading.

Thanks for pointing that out!

If that's the intention then that's not terribly clear. I didn't read it that way at all and just asked everyone to build around 48=50 points. I used IG with Stay On Target, Advanced Sensors, Autothrusters, Mangler, Flechette, and Inertial Dampners. I died first :D Falcon won.

Yeah, it takes a little parsing to figure it out. Now that I've re-read it, it still isn't too clear, but knowing that the squad leader + listed squad points = 100 makes that interpretation much more plausible. It also explains why there are more than three ships in the diagram.

Either way, I'm excited for this mission. I've already created 3 teams using the included squad leaders (plus an upgrade or two on Fett). I'll be running Han+Dash vs. Fett+Colonel Jendon vs. IG-88B+IG-88C. It'll be all 6 of my large ships and each one will have a title. I love that kind of pseudo-equality!
