So I got off my ass...

By MarcoPulleaux, in UFS General Discussion

and investigated the release date of Tekken 6.

A few days ago (as I had posted in another thread), I called FFG hoping to obtain information as to a release date for Tekken 6. The response I got was, "It's on the printer right now, but no release date has been scheduled."

For those who are not aware or would like to know what "on the printer" means, the process (according to the man I talked to) goes as such: they get the art and put them into files. The files are sent to the company that makes the cards. That company physically creates the cards and sends FFG "proofs". The two companies have a back-and-forth exchange until the cards are absolutely where they need to be and are ready to be shipped. As such, FFG is in this process right now.

Now, after reading the UFS article about it coming out in September, AND hearing (allegedly) that James Hata has confirmed Tekken 6 for September, I decided to call back and talk to the same man.

He, lol, asked where I had heard about the Tekken 6 September release, and I told him about the website and the forum's response to it, and he literally LOL'd.

Anyways, his reponse to a release date was the following:

"Steve Horvath DOES want the set to come out before GenCon, preferably in early August (assumedly earlier if possible), but with the amount of preparation GenCon needs, and then the trip all the way back to FFG, there's a possibility that the people who ship the products out will not get it before GenCon, and as such, it's reasonable to believe that it might end up coming out in September.

Now...I talked to Steve yesterday and he has told me he plans on releasing a state of the game early next week, in which it SHOULD have a release date. So, once again, we're going to try getting it finished and shipped out before GenCon, but it could really go either way at this point."

I mentioned James Hata, and his response was simply,

"James Hata is definitely in the loop, but it's best you wait until the state of the game before listening to anybody tell you when it's going to come out. We don't even know yet, so just wait until Steve's state of the game and we'll hope for the best."

Anyways, not sure if this helps any, but I figured I'd talk directly to somebody to clear up some info. So yeah, that's that guys =D

+1 informative, thanks!

Oh wait I have no karma, nor can I share it...

I'm kinda worried that "it might not be coming out until Sept"...

So starting with the release of set 13 we are going to only release one set at a time, meaning that The Tekken set will release by itself and the SoulCalibur set that was scheduled to release with it will now be released 3 months later as set 14. This will also allow us to get back to releasing sets on time. Both sets are going off to the printer and I will post release dates very soon. We are working for a mid July release for set 13 but if it gets pushed into late July we will spoil/preview the entire set early July so that you can proxy cards and build test decks so that you know exactly what you need for World’s, we should know for sure by the end of this month. The pre release kit contains the following:

:P

Thank you for sharing.

Release dates are always things that float around like bugs, and in the summer when things slow down around people's holidays and events, you can never really say for sure when something will be released until it is released.

It would be nice to have an injection of new cards prior to Gencon, but at the same time, I can see FFG trying to do their best to address the current block (namely 4 point cards) to freshen it up.

The only thing I would place money on is Tekken being for sale at Gencon. Whether it be following a release a few weeks earlier or as a prerelease prior to an official drop in early September, I would expect it to be there and for sale. Tekken 6 is a new IP and will grab the attention of the non-ufsers at Gencon, so not having a display of it, and for sale, would be really missing the boat from a business point of view.

This topic totally had my thinking of something else...

He said if it gets delayed they would spoil the entire set early SO THAT we could prepare for Worlds.

I imagine that if the set IS coming out BEFORE Worlds, they will spoil the entire thing to remain true to form.

Nice detective work there buddy.

He is like sherlock holmes without wilson.

I was being smarmy, but in light of the State otG I'm beginning to doubt if we will get spoilers :(

I was all excited too... ah well, I still have UFC 100 and the Tour to look forward to this month.

keeping the THD guys in the loop would definately be a nice way to spoil the set to us early ^_^

...you mean WATSON I'd hope.

I don't need Jude Law; I'm my own Basil of Baker Street.

I was wondering if anyone would catch that... T_T

Yeah, Tom Hanks had Wilson, not Robert Downey Jr.

lol, to be honest, I still haven't read this topics OP, and now hijacking your thread for my own amusement!

I can't believe I'm apologising for re-railing the thread :P

But yeah, Tekken not being released until September really does worry me. A 2 month long setback is almost skipping a release entirely. With the birth of the mini-block format and everything, I would have thought that releases would have been more important than anything right now. I understand that the printers aren't ready yet, but 2 months is an awfully long time to wait....

It's not "almost" skipping a release.

It IS skipping a release. Think about it. One month delay from last set + 2 months from this one = Release date at the same time as Set 14.

And people aren't more concerned about this? I'm shocked, really

Steve promised us he'd spoil the entire set so that we could be ready for Worlds when Tekken comes out...

...OK he owes us big. No Tekken til September? Spoil that ****. RIGHT NOW.

From a personal experience perspective, I strongly disagree with having stuff spoiled now for the following reasons:

1) It won't be legal until September. There is no longer a reason to see this stuff before worlds.

2) Effective yesterday we have a brand new meta, that because of a number of key cards being removed, things are completely turned on their ear. There are many cards that players have disregarded, that now deserve the benefit of a second look. It's almost like we have an entierly new 2x144 card sets.

3) Once people see spoilers, they automatically stop focusing on the current meta (which is a mistake with worlds coming)

4) By the time (two months from now) that Tekken actually gets here, people are going to bored of it already, and clamouring for the Spoilers for the Soul Calibur Set. In fact, people will be clamouring for those within a week of Tekken being spoiled anyway.

I think they should maybe continue to release one card a week for the next 8 weeks leading upto Tekken being released.

To be fair, anyone not going to Worlds has already done that.

they need to be spoiling on a daily basis...

While I may not taking the meta seriously, I'm totally gonna enjoy not seeing the cards on the banned lists in the coming weeks. Should tide me over until Tekken.

remember how we used to actually have sub-forums for the whole purpose of spoiling?

Yeah...do the FFG equivalent; have moar threads on the front page.
