Still not allowed to draw?

By cetiken, in X-Wing Organized Play

I heard there was a new guy in Organized Play so I thought I'd bring out a dead horse.

Why aren't you allowed to intentionally draw in the swiss rounds?

Follow up question why are exceptions made for the best players at Worlds (according to rumor anyway)?

You aren't allowed to intentionally draw in the Swiss rounds because that's deliberate manipulation of tournament scoring; it's a minefield for ethics and power differentials, and the easiest way to avoid a bunch of questionable corner cases is just to say "don't do it".

I wasn't at Worlds and don't know which rumor you mean.

Apparently if your name is Paul Heaver its totally cool to just draw into the top 8.

You are misinformed.

At GenCon, in the qualifier rounds, both me and my opponent were the last two undefeateds entering the final round. We were both a lock for making the cut (top 32 made it), since going X-1 would still easily make it in. There were no prize differences, and thanks to MoV, there's no strength of schedule to affect other players. In short, the results of that last game would have no effect on us, other players, or the event as a whole. We didn't feel like playing it: I was hungry and wanted dinner, and my opponent had a headache. So, we asked the judge if they would mind if we didn't play it. Otherwise, I would have just conceded and gone to get dinner.

So now you know!

Paul

Didn't not playing the game alter your seeding within the Top Cut? Which would affect other players and the possible match-ups for the Top Cut itself?

There was no seeding the after the cut. There was a second day with 6 (5? can't remember anymore) rounds of swiss followed by a cut to top 8. The top 32 got the invite to play in the second day of swiss.

Thank you. I knew something was odd about Gencon this year and I could not for the life of me remember how the handled the two qualifying event thing.
