Star Wars Dice App

By demoses, in X-Wing

Where can I find official confirmation that the dice app is aloud in a store championship for Xwing? Thanks.

I can tell you from personal experience that it can be quite loud, yes.

I believe it use to be in the tournament rules

I know I saw it somewhere

Why would you want the app? Rolling dice is awesome. That's the best part of most board games

Dice app is legal. It is in either FAQ or tournaments rules. It is there though. I use it myself.

It's in the tournament rules.

What if you only own one core set and want to use a phantom? What if you like throwing dice stupidly hard so they bounce off the table? What if you just like pew pew noises set at a reasonable level? What if it's cheaper than buying another set of dice? What if you want a dice app for multiple games?

I prefer the app as opposed to dice

I couldn't tell you why...

I used the app for a while when my dice were just terrible. Then the app went terrible and I went back to the dice. :)

No! The lightsaber "Swoosh" when you turn it on :D

trust me, it doesn't help :(

The dice app is also advertised right on the expansion boxes so I think that should make it count as well, along with the official rules :)

^ What he said. All of it.

First off, the app eliminates any sense that someone has "magic rollhax dice" or knows secret slight of hand tricks/Qui Gon-esque moves to make dice fall a certain way.

Second, I have this paranoia that people may somehow think I'm not rolling dice to a statistically random level of their satisfaction (see point #1), thus I end up tossing dice too strongly and I inevitably end up sending a few off the table/hitting the models/causing general mayhem throughout a match. App solves dat.

Third: Cost is a totally legitimate rationale, despite the fact that I think the dice app should be free with, say, a large or huge ship purchase. They advertise it on every larger box, and if you're shelling out $30+ for a large ship, then you've already dropped $30+ on the core and almost undoubtedly $10+ on several small ships... they should throw you a bone for having spent at least $80 on their game and give you a download code. But I digress... $5 is still cheaper than a spare dice set.

I play x wing, edge of the empire, and imperial assault. The app is amazing!

Per Pg. 4 of the Tournament Rules:

All Star Wars: X-Wing™ Miniatures Game components are legal for

sanctioned play unless they are marked with the epic icon...

Components can only be modified as described under “Component

Modifications” on page 1. If the Star Wars Dice app is used, the app

must be displayed in full view of both players at all times.

This. And it has standard RPG dice as well.

When the dice hate me I go to the app. When the app hates me I go to the dice.

I switch between the two a lot.

Actually, it did help for a while. My dice were.....bad.

I have both the app and a core set (with dice). From experience, I can say that the app allows a lot more flexibility (I can roll 4+ dice at once, and they don't even have to be X-Wing dice!) but my physical dice never shut off during the Planning phase or run out of batteries. *shrug*
I generally prefer to roll the dice by hand, but sometimes it's easier for one player to take the dice and one to take the app (I play with my neighbor, who doesn't have his own dice).

Also when armada comes out the dice app already has the dice in there to use.

I know it's legal, but we have had several issues of people hacking it or using dice that seem to always roll perfect.. For now we allow players to use other players dice or apps it they want to. Just like in backgammon, that way if someone is rolling hot, the other player can choose to use their dice and app. This helps ensure no fixed dice or app.

Hacking the app? What did they do?

One the our players hacked the app and made it so if you tapped it 4 times you could get the perfect roll. We only figured it out, because our store guy was watching his camera's and notice the player tapping 4 times once in a while. We tracked watch the next game and sure enough when the guy needed rolls he would tap it 4 times on the corner and the roll would come up.

After these we tried a couple of tourny's where every player had to use the same dice, but people hated that. So now we tell everyone you can use your dice, but at any time the other play may choose to use them or your app for his rolls also.

Since we caught the app guy, we forced him to use dice only. Amazingly, he has not won the last two contests, which in the past he always seem to pull it out in the end.

That's the thing... How can you tell the app is hacked? Seems like FF should have expected that some people will hack it. I have the app. It has been on fire lately. I am afraid at my next tourney that someone will complain about it...

If they ban the app then FF should send those who spent real money on the app a dice blister. Its basicly the same price.

Wow, I'm surprised he didn't get banned. I wouldnt want to play against a cheat like that.
