Feedback Swarm: Will you pay the piper?

By cyclopeatron, in X-Wing

Feedback Array Z-95 swarms will almost certainly be a thing, especially judging from high profile players running these on Vassal.

But the price of admission to play a Feedback Swarm on the table will be high. The only source of Feedback Array is the IG-2000 expansion, and only one FA card comes with each ship. So if you want to run a Feedback Swarm you're going to have to pay up for 5+ Aggressors. I love IG-88, but I don't really need that many Agressors.

Do any of you think you'll pay the piper to run a Feedback Swarm?

You get two Feedback Arrays with the IG-2000, but getting three of them just to max out the swarms is definitely excessive.

Nope, although I am getting four IG-2000s so I can run all four in 200-point games.

Sir, your derangement is impressive.

To run 7 Pirates (competitively) with FA (98 points total) you still need 4 IG-2000s and 4 MW packs. That's pushing just over $200 online.

I'm getting 2 Aggressors, so I'll have enough to run my mini-swarm with Xizor, Kath, etc. More than 4 really seems suicidal and self-defeating, but perhaps spreading the pain enough makes it work.

Have you personally verified this? Because when I look at the FFG box content photo, and the X-Wing Wiki, I see only one copy of the card.

I certainly hope I am wrong on this!

The photo shows 1 feedback array and then a face down illicit upgrade. As far as I know, the face down card in every photo spread they have posted for this game has been an extra copy of the card right next to it.

The X-Wing Companion app indicates that two come with the IG-2000. Of course, the app could be wrong.

I can't imagine anything in the IG2000 box that would require eight of the ships, when they are already hard-capped at 4 playable ships, ever.

Yeah I like the idea of a mini-swarm of FA Zs. Spread them out and watch Phantoms squirm.

Check the IG-2000 vid... looks legit to me.

I played against a 4 Pirate and Kath list tonight, the Pirates all had feedback.

Worked ok for the guy, mainly for me it made me think about shooting at Zs that didn't have shots, cause he could just put a damage on me anyway.

Are people doing well with Feedback Array in general? I'm curious because I am dreadfully awful with any self-damaging strategy in any game, such as Darth Vader in X-wing.

I also wouldn't consider triggering it once or even a few times in a match doing well. Are you winning with lists that use it? Do you use it a lot in those games? How do you work with the auto-ionization and self damage? I mean I figure you only use it when its necessary, not just when it's possible, but looking for some thoughts.

Just from looking at the card, I can see that it looks like it would be useful when you're bumping, since it's not an attack. It seems very useful against high agility targets, such as Phantoms. Used in numbers, you can probably do significant damage to large ships.

I get all that. It's likely just me. I'm just awful with attrition lists. Now, I can certainly get behind Dead Man's Switch...

Not having used it personally (though I'm eager to try it), you use it to melt ships with low hit points... Phantoms will be a lot more hesitant to approach for those extra five dice, Psycho Tycho's boned, Fel...

It's a budget Doomshuttle for swarms, though slapping it on a large ship could prove useful too, like IG-88 A.

I'll probably get 4 IG-2000s eventually, but I'm just starting with 2. Regardless, I can't see myself ever buying a third or 4th copy of Most Wanted, so this will never be a thing for me.

I have wondered if this is worth doing myself.

U think for fun game sure, but for competitive games I don't know

I did come up with this build.

Be deadly for phantom, or interceptor, but yt would probably not do so well, but never know

4x Binayre pilot

Feedback Array

Cartel spacer

Title

Mangler

Torkil

Ion cannon turret

Torkil can reduce ps 0 so any Phantom that gets in range 1-2 is a good chance if being ion.

Once ion surround the ion ship and set off feedback array.

Torkil can keep it ion if it has more than 4 health.

The cartel spacer is there to be more a Decoy than anything else.

Since the z will hurt themselves, want them to take little dmg

But if the spacer gets ignored, well he does have the mangler

Z just die so easily so against kath, or defender with hlc may not go so well.

Idk, but I'd like to try it.

Has anyone done well with feedback array?

Oh yeah, I'm running 7 Zs with Feedback Array. Loved it the first time I saw it mentioned in the Preview Article.

As to the cards themselves, I'm just going to buy them separately online.

Oooh, they are already for sale on Ebay. Bought myself 7 Feedback Arrays! :D

I've been using one on a scum firespray. It's a nice way to deal with phantoms and interceptors/a-wings that get too close to you when you don't have a shot back. With 10 hit point taking a damage isn't so bad, and an ion doesn't effect you unless you use the card more than once.
