5x Alphas, 5x Autothrusters

This is just my gut reaction to the autothrusters card. I asume people have tried this, how does it fly?

I really want to try it but I'm not sure I'd want to buy 4 more Interceptor expansions just to get the pilots I'd need if I ended up liking it.

Looking forward to trying this too. The version I'm wondering about is 4 Royal Guard with Autothrusters and Veteran Instincts; It's one warm body short but 4 PS8 interceptors should be a nice threat.

PS 8 isn't what it used to be. I'd still rather have my RGP's with PTL.

Thought about:

RGP + PTL + AT x 3 = 81

Alpha = 18

Total = 99

Could also run Howlrunner with Determination. Initially run in a formation and once Howly is down, spread out and hunt.

I do think 5 Alphas with ATs is a solid squad. It would give a turret list fits.

So I tried this out against buzzsaw echo, ptl soontir, and a doomshuttle with Vader in it.

Autothrusters is worth it even when not facing turrets.

Vader crew wrecks interceptors, although that's not unique to this build.

Phantom is OP as always, but at range 3 with autothrusters can control damage enough to only take one damage to prevent the second fcs gunner shenanigans from going off.

it isn't half bad. Certainly a fun list, not A+ material but fun.

I've really wanted to see this list in action. I think it has potential.

I think as long as the enemy list doesn't have a phantom or auto damage stuff like Vader, it will do great. Seem pretty good at nabbing small based expensive named pilots. I think controlling the initial engagement is key with this build, make sure you're at range 3 for the first engagement, and go focus for defense at range 3. Focus is just better on 4 defense anyways, but also allows you to spend it offensively. Autothrusters can't convert focuses anyways, so focuses are your new blanks.

With 5 ships, don't be afraid to run the damaged ones away to come back later.

If you don't fly in formation, you should be able to deal with a Phantom. All it takes is one or two rounds of shooting and some bad green dice. Phantoms kill formations, but I don't see this list needing to fly in formation.

I agree. I almost took out a TIE phantom with 4 Royal Guard Pilots. He had 1 hull left by the time we lost our 3rd fighter, and at that point I just called it. Anecdotal, I know, but he's one of the better phantom players locally, so it gives me hope.
