Help I'm bad at spending the last few points.

By stevensonson, in X-Wing

Despite the current meta not being favorable for X-wings tor roll around in, I am still determined to fly my three favorite chaps from ANH: The Ace, the Farmer and the Mustache.

The list sinks most of the points into the two guys with clean upper lips, using the popular ideas for both pilots.

Luke: 28

+ R2D2 4

+ Shield upgrade 4

+ Lone Wolf 2

= 38

Wedge: 29

+ Predator 3

+ R5P9 3

= 35

Biggs: 25

+ Mustache 0

= 25

Total: 98

Not sure what to do with these last two points. I want to try and keep Biggs alive, but two points isn't enough for a Hull or R2F2. It might be nice to have a Flechette on Wedge (it's not that good, I just want a little bit of control).

Anyway, please help me with this difficult conundrum, it's driving me insane.

I dunno if I'd bother stacking shield upgrade on R2D2 on the most defensive ship in the list...Granted, it's gonna be a monster if the game gets late. But of course, you can only regain one shield per turn, and if he's being shot every round, then...well, shield upgrade goes to waste

R3a2 on Biggs?

An initiative bid isn't necessarily bad either.

You could swap Lone Wolf out for Draw Their Fire, fly Luke next to Biggs (to eat his crits on his shields) and then give Biggs Hull Upgrade.

Luke Skywalker (28)
Lone Wolf (2)
R2-D2 (4)

Wedge Antilles (29)
Predator (3)
R3-A2 (2)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Biggs Darklighter (25)
R5 Astromech (1)

Total: 98

I'm just a bit paranoid, as I once flew Luke with a shield upgrade because there's no kill like overkill, and he survived the combined fire of two interceptors, but only because the 3 crits that Soontir rolled were tanked by the shields, rather than being a direct hit against the Hull (I checked after the game, and it was a Direct hit). He then went on to regen all his shields while the interceptors ate Biggs, and came around to waste Turr later in the game.

Cut R5-P9 and add R3-A2 to Wedge, then add Hull Upgrade to Biggs

Wedge wants to use his focus token on offense to take advantage of his ability.

For those that don't understand why you put Lone Wolf, R2-D2 and Shield on Luke, it's because it forces to the opponent to make a very difficult decision after they kill Biggs: Either let Wedge hammer them while they focus on Luke, or let Luke live until the end and become an unkillable monster with Lone Wolf and R2-D2.

This is a classic squad that I love. I love flying these guys together, it makes the rebel part of me smile. Here's my take for you.

Wedge + Predator + R3-A2 + EU (38)

Luke + Lone Wolf + R2-D2 (34)

Biggs + R4-D6 (26)

98 points. I would stay here and go for init.

I've found that lately R4-D6 has done well. Works well against the HLC and against Phantoms. If it can keep Biggs around for an extra turn it's worth the point

My thoughts on the matter are fully detailed here.

I fully advocate Draw Their Fire on Luke rather than Lone Wolf, for the reasons everyone else suggests.

However, I would also recommend R5-P9 on him instead.

If you don't require your Focus for offense, you're substantially less likely to use it for defense, so using R5-P9 lets you be substantially more mobile than R2-D2. And it costs a point less, so there's that.

Ideally, removing the R2-D2 from Luke would allow it to be put on another ship...

And millions of Star Wars fans suddenly screamed out in terror...

"These are not the droids for which you are looking"
