Yes, had to go there.... For some, this maybe a possibility. Fleet level action with lots of ships and tons of fighters.
With Walmart posting $40 a box, they are looking good.

Where is Walmart posting a $40 box? (Seriously, please post a link)
And yes, I will definitely play epic, probably by Wave 3.
It's in another thread. See Shopping list thread.
Edited by EmpireErikI think that one says it is listed at $60...
Sorry, misposted and it will not let me correct it
NP. $40 for a starter... I would be buying a few of them at that price...
This is how i see epic playing:

Added bonus of showing how impractical a scale SSD would be...

You must be the resident negative Nancy. Hi Nancy, nice to meet you.

Um, ok...
InvisibleCalm is actually correct. Whether or not you want a SSD aside (there are massive threads on this already), a perfectly scaled SSD would be completely ridiculous. Also, that pic was pretty cool.
On the whole, I would say you are bringing the negativity if there is any to be found.
I have to agree with Jedhead, regardless of your personal opinion on an SSD ever being attempted for Armada, that comment was totally uncalled for.
And here I was the whole time thinking that Armada was already epic...could I have been wrong this whole time!
The big issue Armada faces is the same that X-wing faces, and that is a question of range.
When you start looking at bigger battles, it becomes really apparent that the ranges used are far too short (a concession of course to enable it to be played on a table). So without making longer custom range rulers - which would completely change the game, it just gets silly to have groups of capital ships that are 1.5 meters away from each other, but yet still cant start firing yet.
I've resolved that SSD or Death Star just isn't going to work in this scale... I guess the next game will actually be "Star Wars: Epic." Where ISDs will be modeled like Tie fighters are in Armada. Then we can start rolling out the big guns.
All I hear from you guys is white noise. I am pro- SSDs and Death Star, and I am the negative one? You are all clearly Rebel scum and justice will be served. Of course, by justice I mean your heads, and by served I mean on a platter.
SSDs and Death Star, these things need to happen. Even if they have to split the fire arcs into 8 sections of which only two or three can fire, and make them completely immobile or only able to rotate. I don't care how they do it, they just need to do it. The Emperor demands it!

Urgh, this has been brought up time and time again and I can't tell if you are actually being serious or just trolling. :/ Most of us on this forum have discussed it several times over the last 6 months and come to the conclusion that an SSD in Armada would have to be one of the following:
1) Scaled down to a rediculously small size and pathetic abilities that it shames the very name Super Star Destroyer
2) Rediculously huge that it actually couldnt manuver in any way on a 6x4 table, not only due to its own size, but the sheer fact the rest of the table would have to be jammed with all the opposing ships to balance it out
3) Played as just a static background map with some interactable elements (like turrets or damage points) that only has any use in a specific mission format.
Its not just that most of us think its a terrible idea, but that we are sick of seeing the same discussion loop happening over and over again when Armada the core set has not even come out yet and people are talking about things that wouldnt come about until way, way, way later in the games lifespan.

I don't really care what you armchair experts have concluded. You are showing immense arrogance and short-sightedness to assume you know better than FFG how their game should be played and what it is capable of representing. People said X-Wing would never get big ships, too. I already gave some ideas on how something so overpowering could be fielded fairly. A variation of your 3rd option is also possible. Give it its own ruleset and scenario based around engaging parts of it. It doesn't really matter what they do. I just want the model. I don't even play X-Wing, but that won't stop me from getting the Raider. Even if the SSD/Death Star are only useable in one very specific scenario, any proper Star Wars nerd will want one.

Yes X-Wing got "big ships" and it was a complete failure. I highly doubt after the raider comes out to satisfy the Imperial "tickbox" of "yes, they have a huge ship too" that we will ever see another epic ship for X-Wing.
If you just want the model there are plenty of SSD models options you could get.
On the accusation of being arrogant, I can't help but notice that you have less than 40 posts against your name, and yet in that short period of time you have managed to inflame arguments across multiple threads, often with people who have been good, long standing members of this discussion group, maybe I might not be the one in need of the attitude adjustment? Just something to think about.
Oh. THIS discussion again.
Nope.

Ah, the old "I post a lot so I am the resident intellectual authority" argument. Color me unimpressed.

Hey there Wither, calm down man. I was somewhat with you until we started name-calling and trying to argue with people. As a bit of unsolicited advice, try directing your energy into arguing FOR your point rather than just against people. I don't really care about number of posts and based on my experience with him, neither does Maverick. What I DO care about is how respectfully forum member treats other members.
Now to your point with the SSD, I also think it would be fun to have a nice model. It's also safe to say that not a one of us here has any say over whether or not FFG will release one, so we'll see what happens. The general consensus on this forum has been that there is no reasonable way for it the SSD to be incorporated while keeping to the existing semblance of scale and rule set. If you have a counter argument, we'd love to hear it. If you just want to be passionate about it, that's fine too, but don't direct that passion into harassing other members.

You know me too well Cobalt, its not about how much I have posted, rather an observation that as someone who has only recently "arrived" on the forum there seems to be an awful lot of conflict and name calling in threads that Wither has participated in over his posts. Until recently we seemed to have a pretty harmonious group here with some great (but always respectful) discussions, not sure if this is just an inevitable change as more people become aware of Armada and seek out this forum but I will be sad if it is.

I didn't realize "negative nancy" and "rebel scum" were such brutal insults that it gave the whole forum the vapors. I already mentioned a number of ways huge and difficult to maneuver (make it immobile) and/or extremely powerful (give it more fire arc divisions and only let it fire a few each turn) models could be implemented. And again, people said there is no "reasonable" way to incorporate big ships in X-wing, but FFG did it, despite certain folks' protestations that it is an abject failure and FFG is hemorraghing money and playerbase as a result. Really, all these "conflicts" Maverick is whining about involve me mentioning in a number of topics that it would be awesome to see an SSD or Death Star, however it may be accomplished, only to be swarmed by a bunch of self-righteous and self-appointed experts bleeting "NEIN! EET CANNOT BEE DONE!!! VEE HAFF DECIDED IT CANNOT BE!!! RESPECT MAH AUTHORITAEH CUZ VEE HAVE BEEN POSTING SIX MONTHS LONGAAH!! BLERDUBLARRRH!!!" Again, color me uncaring and unimpressed. ![]()
I think it probably can be done. I just don't think it should. It would be incredibly difficult to make it both balanced and also feel like a SSD at the same time. And the price would be nuts if it was any decent size....it would look like total crap if it wasn't at least 18-24" long, and it would probably still look weird at the lower end of that.
So yeah, probably can be done. I hope it isnt, at least until they've released a LOT of normal waves.
They could do what WizKid did for AtackWing and DS9. I think initially they released a cardboard "token" that was farily large. Then enough people were making scale models to sit atop the token that they released an official model.
So, how many points would you call an "epic" game, anyways? Double? Triple? Would fighters still be 1/3 the fleet? I imagine that the Rebels might have an advantage just on shear volume. I mean turns alternate untill one player has moved everything in each step. Given the point differences we've seen in core/wave1. It seems like the Rebel fleet might get a lot of unopposed capital activations every turn. ThoThough the same might be said for the Imperial fighters.
