Most Wanted - Worth a Y-Wing?

By slim chaney, in X-Wing

I play imperial, own about 300 points. Also own xxbb, that's it for rebels, but they are so I can give people intro games.

Ordered most wanted, mainly so that Boba can step up his game. Probably picking up another set to let Kath loose as well.

As there's an extra y-wing dial, is it worth me picking up a rebel y-wing?

Never played one, never played against one, same with z-95s.

Would some combo of Boba or Kath plus 2 y's filled out with z-95's be worth a shot or should I just hold out for a twin firespray scum list, giving me 2 scum y's.

Thanks all :D

There's an extra Y-Wing dial and an extra HWK-290 dial in Most Wanted.

IMHO, it'd be worth picking up Rebel versions of those ships just to get the full value out of the parts you are getting in Most Wanted - it gives you more Rebel options for OpFor matchups, and builds out the Scum options as well. Finally, as noted, you do have the parts...dials, ship base tiles, pilots, etc...might as well get the most value from them by having something to put them on!

idk

the titled Y-wing is the x-wing/b-wing of S&V. If you think you're going to use two of them in lists (they're not hard to incorporate points-wise) then go for it

I always say never hurts to have one of everything

I'll go against the grain and say, "Wait and see." Give the Y-Wing a try in some friendly games, make sure you enjoy flying it, try it with the new title. Boba + BTL-A4 Y-Wing + two Z-95s certainly shouldn't be a bad squad.

If you end up getting a second Most Wanted, you'll be able to field double Y-Wings, at which point the question will be "Do I like these enough to spend $30 on two Rebel versions so I can fly four of them?" The option at that point would be to just save the extra dials for spares, or find someone at your FLGS or gaming group who would want the extra Y-Wing dials, maybe in trade for an extra Z-95.

You could always sell the unused pieces.

^This.

Feed the secondary market, for those of us who want the pack, but can't afford the whole thing in one go.

Well, except for the money you're spending on ships you might never fly more than once a month.

The rebel Y Wing is a good ship to add to your "teaching beginners" rebel set. It's probably the second most recognizable rebel movie fighter, after the X Wing, and it has that ion turret, making it very forgiving for new players. But I'm an unashamed Y-Wing fanboy, so my opinion may not be 100% objective. :P

Y-wings are terribly efficient and effective fighters. You should absolutely get one to supplement Most Wanted.

If you cant be bothered to buy both sides so far, or really cant afford it, then NO you really don't WANT or NEED Scum.

In fact just print out the cards you need.

Its most likely you are not a serious tournament player, and that's ok, so proxy cards are just fine in home games.

You want a Y-wing, if for no reason other than fielding an all Y-wing Scum list.

More Y-Wings = better.

Can't wait for my fifth Wishbone to arrive with Most Wanted!

Equally, the HWK comes with the Blaster turret - something which Scum can use a lot more effectively than Rebels, thanks to the Aggromech and EPT-equipped Y-wings.

The classic Golden Daggers list is some of the most fun you can ever have for 100 points

2 Gold Squadron Pilots with ICT and 2 Dagger Squadron pilots with advanced sensors

It's simple, effective, forgiving and a ton of fun - great list for a beginner or demo game

Why not fly the Scum Y-Wing a little and see how you like it, then make up your mind about snagging a Rebel one, to let you double-dip (or to, instead, unload your dial on the secondary market)?

You didn't read the thread, did you?

I got most wanted FOR the Y-wings

That's kind of an unnecessarily hostile response. It's not like someone has to have Rebels and Imperials to pick up Scum. It's also not like everyone is just licking their chops and waiting to proxy stuff, either.

I know it's one of the big hot-button topics right now -- people griping about cards (or rather, dials) they don't want to pay for -- but that's not really what this dude was saying.

Not having flown scum I couldn't say with full certainty just how much I will like the different pilots and how their ships will perform in a different faction but if it were me I would lean towards picking up a HWK-290 expansion before the Y-Wing.

For one, picking up a HWK allows you to try out everything the Most Wanted pack gives you. Plus as mentioned previously you get a blaster turret which will be my turret of choice when I start trying out Kavil.

And if you like your Firespray's then you certainly may get some good use out of another Recon Specialist card. And if for some reason you don't have that crew card yet then your friend Boba will implore you to run, not walk, to your nearest FLGS to pick up your HWK expansion.

On a trivial/cosmetic level, while its the same cast/mold the scum y wing paint is so much more detailed/nicer than the anemic looking rebel one with its very weak yellow/grey.

I had to repaint my rebel ones to give them some definition but the scum one looks great as it is!

I'd say yes, as it gives you this list

Kath Scarlet (Scum) (38)
Lone Wolf (2)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Recon Specialist (3)
Inertial Dampeners (1)

Syndicate Thug (18)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Unhinged Astromech (1)

Syndicate Thug (18)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Unhinged Astromech (1)

Total: 99

in addition to all the other reasons already posted

Without a Y-Wing expansion pack you'll be missing out on the following upgrades.

Ion Cannon Turret and R2 Astromech. Without a HWK-290 you'll be missing out on Saboteur and Blaster Turret.

Not having a Blaster Turret and Ion Cannon Turret can really limit your options for MW stuff. Also a R2 is a great astromech for both Y's and X's.

This ^^

Cheers guys! Guess its time to order a Y.

I'd planned on repainting it for S&V anyway as people using my Rebs for an intro game won't worry about paint scheme.

I didn't even think of it as expanding my Rebs, I was so focused on a second one for S&V but that was a good call.

Thanks for the Kath list, that's the sort of inspiration I was hoping for.

I saw a mention of rebel captive, got that on on eBay ;-)

As for proxying other cards, not on my watch but that's a whole other post ;-)

Thanks again ;-)
