Do you think we'll get Legends characters in this game?

By Rogue Dakotan, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

X-Wing is obviously full of content from Legends. It even had Legends stuff in the very first wave (Marek Steele).

So far, as far as I can tell, the only Legends content in this game are the awesome characters they cooked up just for Imperial Assault.

Do you think we'll be getting the likes of Dash Rendar, Deena Shan, or other people who could fit into the game's time frame?

Or do you think this time around they'll be sticking with characters who fit in the canon as well as coming up with their own originals now and then for the campaign?

I'm really excited to see what characters are announced in the future.

With the way time periods work I think we'll definitely see some shadows of the empire stuff.

A campaign based partly on dark forces is also a possibility.

I assume that the 'time periods' is a new IA thing? There isn't a similar mechanic in Descent?

Have you seen how far they dig into the EU for their other Star Wars games?

There is no more wretched hive of mary-sue characters than the EU, so I hope most of those stay gone. I'm sure we'll see variations of them pop back up as Disney does it's thing though.

Of course. I'm not against it by any means. I just noticed that there was no EU stuff in the game yet and wondered if that was something they were going for.

But there is EU stuff in the game already. Just look at the item cards. Most of the designations were never heard on film. The Vibroblade, and several other items never on screen. One of the melee mods has a Selonian on it and they are old EU.

I would say the odds of us getting more Legends is very very high, including fan favorites like Mara Jade, and Thrawn.

They will probably focus more on core movie characters to start with and later on spread out from there like they did with x-wing. Wouldn't be surprised if we saw some EU characters in wave 2 though.

If Mara Jade, Dash Rendar, Kyle Katarn, and Xizor don't eventually show up I'll eat my hat.

Yeah, it's a simple guideline for determining which side missions fit temporally with the campaign being played. The core (and thus far only) campaign is time period 3, and begins immediately after the destruction of the first Death Star. We can tell a few things about where the game is going based on the time periods certain missions can be used in:

-The agenda mission for the Imperial player to recruit Vader can be played in time periods 1-6, which shows there will never be a campaign set in the Clone Wars or any other point prior to the end of Episode III (well, unless FFG changes their minds and shoehorns in a time period 0. :P ).

-Chewbacca's ally recruitment mission can be played in time periods 1-7, showing that FFG is, at least in broad strokes, planning for at least one campaign set after Vader's death. EU shenanigans... or Episode VII tie-in?

-Luke Skywalker (Hero of the Rebellion) can only be recruited in time periods 3 and 4. Makes sense, as his entire time with the rebellion prior to time period 3 is depicted onscreen, and further down the timeline, the current version will obviously be replaced with "Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight)", likely more expensive to deploy, melee focused, and better-able to go toe to toe with Vader.

-Likewise, Han Solo (Scoundrel)'s recruitment mission is available from time period 2 through 4. This suggests a few interesting things. First, time period 5 and beyond happen after he's frozen (and once he's thawed, he, like Luke, will probably receive a nice upgrade in the form of a new figure and card for us to buy - "Han Solo (Rebel General)" perhaps?). Perhaps more intruiging is what we can infer about time period 2. Like Luke, Han's entire involvement with the rebellion prior to time period 3 is depicted in Episode IV, yet he can be recruited in this earlier time. I've been advocating for a sort of mob war campaign featuring both heroes and enemies from the mercenary faction, and this suggests time period 2 could be just that.

There are limited hero options on the Imperial side if you go strictly movie based and I doubt they are going to create all their own brand new heroes. There really is no reason not to utilize the EU/legends material. There are some questionable stories and characters, but plenty of solid, fan favorite ones. Still a few more movie characters on the rebel side, but after two or three waves of expansions, they should have to go EU or end it all.

There are some movie villains still available, altough most of those that come to mind are Scum, Aurra Sing, Boba Fett...

Wait...got a great Idea. New campaign: Bounty Hunter Wars .
