Store Championship Meta About to Change?

By Deltmi, in X-Wing

With the release of S&V this week, do you think the Store Championship meta will change (In the U.S., products are tournament legal upon release)? I don't know if S&V has an answer to the current Large Ship meta. If anything, maybe people will stop playing rebel/imperial 2-ship builds and play with their shiny new toys instead?

2 Firesprays or 2 IG-88

S&V certainly offers some hope of nerfing a lot of the common meta builds, but at the very least you will see NEW ships instead of the same common themes. Whether any of those counters affects the long-term meta is almost impossible to know. I do think the game will overall be healthier for the addition of the third faction.

The next few tournaments will be a lot of scum. People always play with the shiny things for a bit. It will all even out by the end of the year.

S&V will force a different kind of play for those looking to get into that faction. A build of 9s is not possible and swarms are not as adventitious is it is for the Imperial Ties. Middle of the road PS skills with game changing talents is the name of the new game. Currently the Meta is made up of high PS, or larger squads of PS 1s and 2s.

Vader on Patrol Leader/Oicunn to kill all the Soontirs + other Interceptors who think they're invincible now.

But then you have the Syck Mangler cannon build to deal with...

I'm thinking some builds like

4 Syndicate thug

Autoblaster Turret

Title

Unhinged astromech

Binayre pilot

Hot shot Blaster

Could be a good build and plan on doing some play testing with this.

But I'm wondering if this has potential like the bbbbz lists that do well.

Duel aggressor and firesprays will be around. I've been doing well and testing various duel Ig88 builds on vassal.

For 16 hp they are hard ships to kill and can take a lot of incoming fire.

Have lost 2 out of 8 games or so.

The games I've lost I know what I've done wrong and was also some different builds

Paul Heaver also wrote the article which I'm sure everyone here has read and he had some good ideas there.

May need some minor tweaking, but he's correct in what he said

If the meta didn't change, I'd consider Wave 6 a failure :P

(ditto the game designers attempts to rectify the turreted filth)

In all honesty, I have no idea how things will change, I'm just hopeful. We're getting things that make ships more damage/cost effective (such as N'dru, the new Kath & Boba, and the Y-wing title, which ups its damage output considerably with ion)

turrets don't like those kinds of ships, and phantoms don't like those HWKs

This I just came up with and looks fun

4 bynare pilot

Feedback Array

Cartel spacer

Title

Mangler cannon

Torkil

Ion cannon

Anything gets close Torkil reduces PS0

Ion it

Next round four z95 swarm it and free four dmg

Dead phantom real easy.

Dead fel

Yes they will take 1 dmg and ion but Torkil can keep whatever ion and since the z are already in position more dmg

And a cartel with mangler just because

But the dials for the Y-wing and Hwk are still the same. Instead of a doughnut hole, they have a Range 3 bagel hole! Phantoms will still be able to skirt around them (albeit with more difficulty) and not be in danger of some of the S&V abilities.

in all honesty, I've never felt phantoms to be much of a problem.

for them, Scum's also got access to fun things (yes the HWKs still count, because creating an entire range 1-2 "forbidden zone" to plan your positions aruond is incredibly powerful, both in ability and in ion turret) such as PS 10 super veteran Boba, several powerful PS 7 characters such as four dice Kath and four dice Kavil, and some interesting illicit options

while it's true that there is no easy Stress Wing analog in scum, I highly doubt they're coming in unprepared

Kavil with Autoblaster Turret, Opportunist and Unhinged Astromech could be lots of fun. Full access to green three-speeds will make it easy to clear stress while staying at range 1.

I think that the big change that's coming is that there's going to be a ton of raw, untested lists being thrown into the mix. Some of them are going to be bad, but some are going to catch people off guard with the new abilities, dials, etc. Above all, people are going to be trying out a ton of new stuff, because many players will want to be the first to win a SC with a scum list.

And none of it will have a phantom or a pancake.

I suspect that scum swarms will be relatively rare, since A) there's not much new there that the rebels couldn't have done already, and B) hardly anybody wants to buy that many Most Wanted boxes.

I can't even pretend to predict where the meta will settle out once the dust clears and the shine wears off S&V, but I doubt it will happen before the end of SC season.

I don't know about a lot, but there should certainly be some. There will be some players who are going with what they're comfortable with, and there will be others who will want to fly the new stuff specifically because their opponent may not be comfortable with it.

It will be interesting to see how this leads up to Regionals. SC is a good place to "try" competitive Scum lists against quality opponents/lists. Which ever ones are successful, you can bet they'll be net-decked at Regionals.

I for sure will be flying Feedback Array Zs swarm a couple of times, for sure! :)

I'll be testing out other stuff too, I'm sure, but the swarm will be my backbone. I'm sure there will be others following the same path. Hopefully there will be a few number of them, however! :P
