I don't see the power level difference. Force and Destiny characters aren't going to be any more powerful than any other characters. Characters with equal XP, for the most part, are well balanced. A GM can decide that he doesn't want force characters in their game because "There are none left" or "I don't like them" but saying FaD is overpowered when compared to others means you haven't really tried them.
A few questions about the SW RPG line of FFG
I'm not a huge fan of the separate books but it's not a deal-breaker for me. However, I don't like that species, gear, ships, etc. are scattered across both the core books AND splatbooks. If you want more options, that's a LOT to buy. I hope they release compilation books for species, gear and ships but I'm not holding my breath.

As has been noted before, if they do it will be much farther down the line.

Meanwhile, there are fan-made resources from folks who do their best.
Three years ago, one could make a case for needing the Betas. But now? That's $20x3 that's pretty much wasted on completely redundant material - unless you REALLY need those Beta adventures. So figuring those into the "These books cost too much" totals is silly.

Especially as I never purchased a single Beta, just waited for the Core Rules.
My only problem with all these books coming out is that I'm going to need a second backpack to carry them all pretty soon! ![]()

I wound up getting a wire-frame set of panniers for my bicycle, I'd keep my cased laptop on one side and the books I prefered in hand on the other, and my other essentials in the backpack.
I have more than half of them (the Betas are actually great to carry around for stats - they're much lighter than the core, and the print of updates/corrections is 5-7 pages to tuck in the front.) and they're filling up the little nook I have them in too quickly for comfort.

Milk crates + a collapsible dolly works here. And even allows for "shelves" by just setting the crates on their sides at home. So, don't have to pack/unpack them from the crates between sessions.
I’ve got one of these monsters — http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/410409/Ativa-Mobil-IT-Rolling-Briefcase-Ultimate/
But it’s running out of room! And it is **** bloody heavy to move!
Admittedly...I buy the books and keep them in my personal library that sits under my desk...but I use my iPad and scanned in pages for whatever I need. I used to carry all my books around but when I went digital, I never went back. My only regret is that its not an officially supported standpoint due to some stupid agreement made years ago.
I do wish that we could get a code to download a nice PDF of the book we just purchased, many of the DVDs I buy have digital download codes.
That was my biggest complaint about the latter seasons of the Clone Wars. It seemed like the war front stories got less priority then the political and force focused stories or just retellings of old tales tweaked to fit in Star Wars. Also the starfighter and ship or fleet combat focused episodes and arcs basically vanished once Season three started.
I was exactly the other way around. The words "we must deregulate the banks" in an episode were like honey to me. Political intrigue is ten times as satisfying to me as combat - the stakes are so much higher!

That would still be digital distribution. So, still not allowed under the license that LA has seemed to be using for the last 3 decades.
If your group decide they like the game and want to expand their characters, these are the career books currently out (or soon to be released):
EotE:
Explorer
Hired Gun
Colonist
Smuggler
AoR:
Ace
Diplomat
Your friends can buy books themselves based on the careers they play as to expand their options and give them new powers. That saves a single GM buying everything and sharing it out (something I do) since that would be 6 extra books for you to buy.

Exactly. Being a history buff with an anthropology degree, the whole social structure is of interest to me. I don't mind a good space battle, and love a well-choreographed sword fight, but the Byzantine political intrigue provides the greatest fodder for my imagination because they become the solid backdrop upon which I can hang any story.
