Ysanne Isnard and Push the Limit

By zhentil, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Okay, I know that you get your free evade with your big man when she is on your ship also you can make push the limit go off with her. This came up and i just want to be sure.

RAC with Push the Limit and Isard

1. RAC moves and ends up hitting AND sitting on an asteroid.

2. He gets no action and take one damage.

3. NOW at the beginning of combat, you can get your free action evade.

4. With using push the limit he then can boost off of the asteroid thus giving him a shot because he no longer is on the asteroid.

I am curious if this can be done. I believe it can because you are triggering the Push the Limit at a different time instead of during activation step.

Am i right about his or not.

the option to use PTL triggers whenever an action - or free action - is performed.

Colliding with a rock only limits you to skipping your perform action step during the activation phase

So basically the answer is yes - you can do this - but there are a couple of restrictions.

When you perform a boost (or barrel roll) action, the movement template may not overlap an obstacle (unless your are Dash Rendar) - so if you've gone head on into the Roid and the movement guides on the front of the base are overlapping it, or if the movement guide overlaps the Roid for any other reason, then you could not perform the boost action legally.

Likewise your finishing position after performing the boost must not overlap another obstacle or ship

another point to consider:

PTL only allows you to perform actions shown in your action bar - while this does not effect Engine Upgrade - it does effect you if your boost or barrel roll action is provided by an upgrade card that has the Action: header (Leebo, Expert Handling, and R7-T1 spring to mind) - you cannot use PTL for these actions as they are not included in your upgrade bar.

You may however use Experimental Interface instead

I don't believe any of the above is correct.

First, if you add Engine Upgrade card to RAC, it is now considered part of your action bar. Which means it can be used for PTL.

For Ysanne Isard, last sentence on the crew card states, "you may perform a free evade action". If you are on an asteriod you cannot perform actions. Therefore you cannot use Ysanne Isard at the beginning of the Combat phase to receive a free evade action. And you will not be able to trigger PTL either.

Basically you are stuck on the asteroid with no ability to "perform actions".

Actually I stand corrected on my above comment about Ysanne Isard...

You will skip the perform action step in the activation phase for landing on the rock...but Ysanne triggers an evade action at the beginning of the combat phase...so I do believe you DO get to perform the evade and also can PTL to boost off the rock.

below is from FAQ:

Q: If a ship is required to skip its “Perform Action” step (for example, if it overlapped an obstacle), is it still allowed to perform free actions outside of the “Perform Action” step?

A: Yes.

I didn't say EU couldn't be used with PTL - I specifically said that it could - I mentioned as a side note that the Boost Action is not always associated with an action on your action bar and that players should be mindful of that when using PTL.

You may perform actions while on an asteroid - the only restriction is that you must skip your "perform action" step during the activation phase.

There's an excellent article on the Team covenant site by one of our resident rules ninjas that covers all of this

If you boost/B.R. and the template goes over the obstacle you can't boost or B.R. that way. (stressed path is the illegal maneuver path)

A picture says a thousand words... :)
