Kenkrik with Triple TIE Escort

By matys2, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi All you cool, awesome people,

Hello rebels.

Let me know what you think of the tanky list below. If you make any suggestions, please keep in mind I'm in possession of the VT-49, Core set, YT-2400 and Advanced Tie (and their associated upgrade cards).

Happy to hear from you!

might be fun to play in casual games, but don't see it winning any tournaments

I'd swap out Mara Jade for Rebel Captive though.

Having Determination on Kenkirk has saved my bacon a few times. The little ships end up being cannon fodder while Kenkirk whittles away the enemy and if kept at range 3 manages to outsurvive the others.

your kenkirk is fine that build is ok. its what is going with him that I'm talking about three ties in my opinion is not a great escort for him unless your planning on using them to limit enemy maneuvers.

Get yourself a lambda so you have rebel captive. It has become a default for the decimators.

I would probably go with whisper or echo one of them should fit in the list for 43 pts

Thanks for the replies guys!

To be honest, I'm a really noobish player and don't have the experience yet to fly just two ships well enough. My idea was as followed:

1. I'm not that experienced, so i need some easy to fly ships that have some survivability.
2. I friggin' love Decimators.
3. Why not combine a decimator with three tie-fighters (with high evasive and some dmg output) that might end up giving me a little extra room to make some small errors.
4. I love Decimators.

My Idea was to get me multiple ships so to devide my opponents attention instead of brining a cool ship that I don't know how to fly and them bringing it down in the second round. I know it might not make any sense to the more experienced flyers here. I'll keep you posted on the tournament results from upcoming saturday.

Cheers!

gotta fly what ya love

Seems like a really fun list, if you had Rebel Captive I'd say take that over Mara. If you wanted even more survivabilty you could swap Gunner with Moffy-J.

I think the list idea is good, but it would really benefit from Howlrunner (but what list wouldn't?). If you can get the TIE fighter expansion, that would be a worthwhile change, imo. So, drop out nightbeast for another academy and swap dark curse for Howlrunner. Use the 2 academies for blocking and howlrunner for buffing (can also block vs higher PS). Another idea is get engine upgrade for Kenkirk (although I believe that only comes on the YT-1300....expensive purchase for 1 card if you have no desire to fly the ship...) and run 3 academy TIES. Engine is super valuable on a decimator, in my experience. I agree that Rebel Captive is better than Mara Jade, but again, that might be expensive to buy a shuttle just for 1 card if you never plan on flying the ship...

If you want Kenkirk to be even more tanky, run a BSP with DTF instead of nightbeast. Keep him close to Kenkirk and he can draw any crit that isn't a pilot one off Kenkirk. I also keep the Academy in front for blocking. I've ran pretty much the exact same squad except for the before mentioned Rebel Captive instead of Mara and Backstabber. Backstabber goes on his flanking mission. Its actually a very decent squad.

It would depend on your matchups. It matches up nicely to a Fat Han, Kenkirk can be even more Tanky at times while putting out decent damage. Rebel Captive helps against Phantoms, especially if they are running a Phantom with lower PS. You'll struggle against swarmy type builds however.

pretty sure a double falcon list wouldn't have much trouble with this list either when chewie is getting two evades every turn. could be wrong though

There are a grand total of two Kenkirk builds I dread to face and neither use determination (the chances of that ability ever triggering are low unless you have the devil's luck)

build 1 involves lone wolf for absolutely hilarious use of that single agility (spread out over the remaining 11 or so hull, it is far more significant than many would think)

build 2 is ysanne, push the limit, engine upgrade--allowing kenkirk to double stack focus & target-lock or to trigger push the limit on Ysanne's free evade, allowing it to boost out of the arcs of even PS 10 pilots (because the free evade occurs after everyone has moved but before anyone starts shooting)

My favourite way to kit Kenkirk out is PTL+RC+YI+EU. I flew against a Chiraneau Carnor build with that stuff and he kept getting out of arc after Ysanne triggered. It was brilliant(for him) but sucked for me as he picked off my swarm(Whisper+VI+FCS+ACD with 5 academy ties). He ended up getting range 1 on whisper staying out of arc of her and threw 4 hits to my 4 blanks. After that, the poor Tie's stood no choice as he was PTL boosting off asteroids after Ysanne triggered. It was the best decimator flying I've ever seen.

Forgot to add - I have gotten very unlucky on more than a few occasions to be hit with injured pilot on Kenkirk so Determination isn't a total waste. Had I had it, Kenkirk would have won me the game but with the crit he was just cannon fodder and went down quickly. I've outlasted yt2400's and yt1300's with Kenkirk and Determination to win matches. It is more useful than you think.

Determination can be useful, it's just highly unlikely (need to crit and need to draw pilot crits which are, by far, the minority)

Lone Wolf is almost always useful (have to fufill the trigger) and Push the Limit is almost never useless, especially given that it basically turns your decimator into Dash rendar minus the damage roll (or debris, if they ever become tournie legal again)

Debris fields would completely negate Ysanne due to the stress and thus PTL would not kick in either.

I added that in already :P

they're just not tournament legal yet, and not even the latest FAQ reversed that decision.

I prefer to stay with just asteroids. I'm not big on debris fields. If they did, you'd see everyone running Dash on the yt-2400 adn that would get really boring.

Oh lawd, is it X-wing game night already? :P

Yeah, I'm not huge on debris either, though I do love what they do to limit phantoms

I flew a Decimator list today as well. but mine was escorted by a couple of Scimitar bombers and an Academy TIE fighter. Bombers sported Prox mines in the first game, but only got to drop one of them, so second game I switched to Concussion missiles..

Oicunn was fun to fly, but in my second game I never was able to do any bumping. So I will tweek it and see what floats. Might try Kenkirk, he seems a solid pilot.

Edited by oneway

I think Kenkrik is really tanky. Combined with Ysanne he has a nice dodge for a 16hp ship. I will keep you guys posted on the tournament results with this list (don't expect to much).

I actually expect quite a bit :). If you had Rebel Captive instead of Mara Jade you would have my tournament build right there. People underestimate the TIEs. "Dark Curse" and "Night Beast" are absolute pains to kill, and their PS trumps Talas, giving a much easier match against the typical Fat Han. I've played this squad around 15 times and only lost twice. It is awesome!

Let me tell you something else. If you're up against Chiranreau, you want range 3 for the bonus agility, but he'll want range 2 or 1 for his crit ability. Well, with Determination you can just say "Bring it, Admiral!" Kenkirk is a tank!

I think without Rebel Captive you'll have a tough time against TIE phantoms. One card I've been toying around with in my head is Countermeasures. Haven't tried it yet. One of my losses came from getting boxed in by 5 Academy pilots that were supporting "Whisper." Countermeasures would have given me a bonus die against all those incoming attacks, AND would have allowed me to discard the target lock from "Whisper's" Fire-control System. However, Mara is already a good answer to swarms, so you could keep her.

If you could borrow Rebel Captive from a friend for the tournament, that would help, but you HAVE to remember to use it! Without a lot of practice with it, I am leaning on you keeping Mara Jade.

Has the Store Championship already happened? Do you have a battle report for us?

Not yet. Thanks for the nice reply! I'll write a report as soon as i'm done. I have some trouble getting rebel captive though because I'm not really interested in buying a lambda for just one card. I'll keep you posted.
