Last weekend we played the final chapter of my module "An Empire Served" and it was a blast. So much so that I wanted to share the experience with you...
Whilst scouting the forest moon of Endor for a suitable location for a shield generator the party is led to the broken beacon (left behind by Pfilbee Jhorn during his early scouting of the moon) by the Ewok Chief Niakk. The chief was indebted to the party because they helped his village escape from a Gorax attack, but that is a different story (suffice to say the log smashes are not only effective against AT-ST's.)
There was an electric perimeter fence around the beacon and the cache (containing food, some weapons an a speeder bike), but our mechanic (R2D9) immediately saw that the field generator was defective (using his Bad Motivator talent) and it turned out he was right. The fence fizzled out and the party entered the cache where they stumble upon the body of a deceased Ewok lying on top of one of the crates.
They opened the crates and got so excited about a lot of the gear they found and thus were oblivious of the Condor Dragon swooping down upon them. The dragon, being the scavenger they can be, had been longing to sink his beak into the Ewok for a while now and seeing the fence dissipate he finally saw his chance. The party was surprised to see him appear but all of the players luckily passed their fear check. The dragon while grabbing the Ewok also got his claws wrapped around some of the spools of wire that spilled from the broken beacon, slowly lifting the beacon as he flew off. The parties wookie pilot as well as the politico Twil'ek (in a fit of bravery not typical of him) quickly grabbed onto the beacon and flew along with the great beast. The female human scout quickly jumped on one of the speeder bikes and started chasing the Condor Dragon, firing the blaster on the front of the bike all the while.
Long story short, the chase lasted for 7 or 8 turns, going over meadows, through tree tunnels, skirting tree tops and raging rivers with the politico (surviving being dragged along the ground and getting hit by branches and nearly drowning in the river) somehow ending up on the back of the speeder bike and the Wookie on top of the beast straddling it like a riding beast bashing its head with his knuckle dusters.
The final confrontation in a large volcanic cave ended up with the great beast slowly "drowning" in a lava flow...
It was just epic. Not a beat was missed and the players actually were jumping around and acting like little kids during the chase and needed a break after the kill...
We have been playing for a while now but a session like this one even blew us away. It was so much fun!!!
