I love x-wing, but I think I may just pass on the S&V ships.

By Hrathen, in X-Wing

As far as aesthetics go, the only decent-looking Scum ship is the Y-Wing repaint (and original Firespray). All of the new ones, especially the Starviper, look like ass. But they have a lot of fun tricks and trappings that look to be interesting. Otherwise, I'd be right there with ya.

The star viper does indeed look, er, like a ship from a different franchise.

Frankly it looks like a Vorlon ship (sort of).

I have two, one I shall leave as is and one I shall "fix".

I think for starters I might fold the wings back. That would help.

The star viper is the first ship I've ordered just for the cards - I just can't get past how utterly stupid it looks and I can't imagine it ever seeing the table, at my house.

I might end up "fixing" both of mine with a hammer to save the storage space.

The one thing I would say is proxy and play the ships that way first. See if you like anything being offered. Then buy what you like. :)

I didn't think I would be buying S&V either at first. Last week, I proxied some stuff and immediately changed my mind. Now, I have to buy certain things as I found a build I really like.

I think for me, I just won't be buying the Scyk. Doesn't fit my play style.

OK....I have to admit something. I had $14 store credit at MM. I only ordered one IG-88, but it's good to have 2. It's only $20 on there. I already have free shipping with one order, but it will ship any day now. I called up and used my store credit and $6 to get another IG-88 added to my free shipping order.

****.....I wasn't going to get it, but it was only $6!

I'm glad to see posts like this (the OP's). I'm super excited about S&V, but my biggest fear was that it would be the "shiny new popular choice" and everyone would be flocking to it. It seems like things will still be pretty balanced between numbers of Imperial players, Rebel players, and Scum & Villainy players.

As far as the StarViper's aesthetics, I kinda see where people are coming from. As a child, I collected MicroMachines Star Wars Action Fleet ships. Those were cool! But then Shadows of the Empire came out and they had the Virago and a swoop two-pack with Dash Rendar. I knew nothing about that story (since I didn't have an N-64) and felt like it wasn't Star Wars, so I never picked those up. But as time went on and I saw Shadows of the Empire things more and more, it grew on me. It feels like part of Star Wars to me now. But the point is that it didn't use to feel like Star Wars to me, so I can see others' points of view.

What's yours is yours and do whatever you want with it (clearly), but FWIW, this random stranger on the internet wishes you'd sell or trade it to someone, instead of trashing it.

Right here in this thread are folks saying they dig the look of it. Just throwing it away seems like a waste, when you know someone out there wants another Starviper and might be willing to toss you a few bucks or a ship you like for it, y'know?

True, but...

A good pilot will always understand the strengths and weaknesses of the enemy.

That's why america uses captured enemy jets to fight against theirs. To understand how to handle them and discover their weaknesses.

I have several of every Empire ship and will have several of every Scum ship. I do not have and never intend to own any Rebel ship.

I buy ALL THE THINGS!!

I buy ALL THE THINGS!!

Yeah, I'm kind of a suckered like that too. Can't not have them all... my preciouses

I was not really excited when S&V was announced.

Last week, I proxied a 100 pt S&V list... It was fun. Perhaps because it is new and unpredictable and the "Optimal list" has yet to be discovered, it was a lot of fun, not the same old Rebel/Imperial elites or swarms; no "Super Dash", no "Fat Han", no "Phantom Menace". It was refreshingly... FUN.

I hear you on that. Flew 5 HWK last night, still lost but it came down to the last 3hp on both sides.

Weird builds being viable is the BEST THING.

I think I'm going to only buy 1 Starviper and 1 Most Wanted. There's a lot of good builds you can do with just those 2 packages alone.

FFG had better hope that S&V brings in more players than it loses. I haven't spent a dime on this game since the announcement of wave 6, and I'd been planning on buying multiples of Rebel Aces and wave 5. Maybe I'll find a place to buy individual upgrades, if I can be bothered to find the motivation to do so.

Wait wait, I'm confused. I thought you were just not buying anything of the new faction? This post makes it sound like you haven't gotten Wave 5 or at least 1 Rebel Aces yet because of the S&V announcement. Or is that exactly what you are saying?

Do you intend to get the Raider?

Pretty sure this isn't even a gamble. Actually, players who would quit over such an improvement to the game aren't people who I'd want to play with in the first place.

Also: every whiner is a slightly better chance of my LGS having ships on the shelf when I check.

That's exactly what I'm saying. I don't expect to be representative of the player base at large, but S&V has sorely drained my interest in the game. I've managed to content myself by playing with older lists, like multiple Firesprays. As for the Raider, I just don't know. Convincing myself to invest further in a game whose direction disinterests me is something of a challenge at present.

Probably not, but who amongst us can say for sure? I know I don't have access to FFG's ledgers. As for being an 'improvement' to the game, that's clearly debatable, or this thread wouldn't exist. Perhaps we should refrain from judging each other based on differing interests.

I actually largely agree with WonderWAAAGH. I did buy Rebel Aces and Wave 5, but S&V is a clear point for me to say "enough is enough." The introduction of the third faction helped me realize that I already have all the ships I want and that I can play hundreds of games without getting bored. I may get one Starviper and Most Wanted, but that's increasingly unlikely. S&V helped break the "new + shiny = must have."

I can understand the OP's sentiment. I got that way with heroclix.

But I started x-wing a few weeks ago and I'm excited for scum & villainy. I've managed to get most of the current ships and I have an order in for a couple of each of the scum. Hope they get here this week!

I'm doing my part to keep X-Wing in business. :)

Oh goodness, I know that feel. Went way too far with buying heroclix. Soon as I wanted to get out of it I couldn't get rid of the bulk of my stuff.

I still have 400+ figures I will likely never get rid of without giving them away.

You say that like it's a bad thing. ;)

I like all the ships, I am not a purist, I enjoy the expanding of the universe and most of the stories (except Vong, that can go die in a fire). I don't understand people that get hung up on aesthetics

More ships for me. :D

I'm still very much new ship must have but i guess i'm weird and like new things. Ive played a lot of starwars games and most are just like lookie we have the bread and butter core stuff like x-wings and tie fighters. But its the stuff we haven't seen before that gets me real excited i pretty much ignored this game till i saw the Hwk-290 and the dark forces veteran inside me said must have. Then we started getting stuff like the defender and i still have my old tie fighter game poster from when i was a kid sure its got a few rips and stuff but its still cool. I used to play star wars galaxies and scum pilot was my jam pretty much because it was something new i had flown my share of x-wings and tie fighters already and now i had all these weird Hutt and Black sun ships.

So scum was pretty much an auto buy for me and i think the Raider might be the first ship i buy that tempts me into this huge ships thing. But i can understand if people feel they "Have enough X-wing" but for me I'm keen for more hell id buy a ground forces expansion with at-at's, air speeders, hover tanks and ground troops. Stuff from the new movies? chuck it in!, Starwars rebel's Ghost? Might as well! Ships from the old republic? gimme! Naboo starfighter? eww but i could use it as psychological warfare against my opponent.

I'm not sure you want him to answer that. :D

Naboo starfighter? eww but i could use it as psychological warfare against my opponent.

Using that ship should be classified as a severe warcrime. :P

Hey, in the old Rogue Squadron game, the Naboo Starfighter flew better than X-wings. There's a precedent for making it an OP craft.
