Q&A With Designer Alex Davy. Article is Up.

By Rogue Dakotan, in X-Wing

Interesting article. Though I dislike that they won't be doing card only expansions. It seems to me that is exactly what the Scum faction needs. More maneuver dials and ship cards to use the models people already have.

Rebels could use some new dials as well, to use with the scum Z-95 and Y-Wing models.

Exactly! The purchase of a Z95 expansion, Y-wing expansion and Most Wanted pack SHOULD enable a player to field a squad of 3 Z95s and 2 Y's for either faction, but it doesn't. FFG is ridiculously requiring redundant purchasing of duplicate models just to run the squads a player already possesses.

NOPE!

The issue is actually compounded by people who hoard new ships, you know!

Then why are there Firespray and HWK 290 dials and cards in it? Since you are so willing you should want to buy "different" versions of those ships in stead of getting maneuver dials and cards for them.

It does seem crazy that you'd have to buy more MW packs to cover your other ships, and in turn end up with more models that you probably won't be able to use.

They are a business though, and though some of us might baulk and say no many others will spend the money.

And now I am wondering if this whole objection of mine is moot. Looking over the tournament and basic game rules I can't find anything about maneuver dials matching affiliation. So I'm wondering how it actually works.

Because re reading the rules I can't find anything that says you can't use the maneuver dial with the model that comes with the Rebel Z95 when using it as a Scum Z95 with that pilot card. Though there may be something in the Most Wanted pack.

Nah man you gottah match up the cards with the ships. If you want to have fun and not worry... don't play in tournaments, is my advice.

;)

Kihraxz Assault Fighter pack with a Vaskai title or something would be awesome.

Yeah that is prolly in Wave Seven. I was kinda surprised it was not in Wave Six to be honest...

That's all I do. If I did start tournament stuff I doubt I'd use that squad idea anyway.

I was thinking of getting some third party dials to even everything up for when I play with them independently.

I'm really disappointed that FFG have decided against card-only expansions. It's not that I'm being cheap, you only have to look at my sig to see how much money I've spent on this game, but I think the ship variety is sufficient for now but we are sorely lacking in pilots. I'd like many more pilot options per ship as I think 4 (2 generic, 2 unique) is really limiting, especially for expensive ships like the TIE Defender.

I am all for FFG finding new ways for us to use the ships we already have. I can see that might not be as good a business thing for them though. But who knows.

They are making good money with this model. No way they will switch. Once you find a way to make good money you ride it out period.

Following the extensive amount of complaints or at least unrealized expectations over the "ordnance fix" I thought this thread was definitely due for a bump.

There was never an "ordnance fix". The conversation was about bombs and RogueLieutenant's post here with link to his Jodo Cast podcast/blog is the proof.

We got on to talking about bombs, since they’re really fun, but not the most useful upgrade to take when there’s so many other things you could be using instead. (I’ve always loved bombs. They’re so fun.)

“Bomb’s need some sort of fix,” Davy said. When prodded for more information he simply said that there “…may or may not be a fix already in the works.”

To the number of us who said that we really liked flying Tie Bombers, he told us “You will probably enjoy wave seven.”

Again, nothing there about "ordnance fix". And just because we didn't get anything better yet doesn't mean it won't happen.
