Thoughts on Kath/Kavil/N'Dru

Just looking for critiques/suggestions on a Scum list I'm interested in trying out.

Kath gets pretty consistent Focus/TL 4-dice attacks from either arc while Kavil gets 4-dice attacks with a TL at Range 1-2 (outside of his firing arc). N'Dru is a fairly cheap but extremely effective flanker. There's 2 PS 9s in there for early shots as well. What do you think?

I've been tinkering with a list very similar to yours.

I think the HLC on Kath is a little lavish. She's already basically getting a free HLC in her rear arc (or if not "free", then a rear-arc HLC she's forced to pay for). May as well try to use it as often as possible.

My version uses the 7 points you spent on her HLC to give her PTL and and Engine Upgrade.

Same thing. I was using something very similar.

HLC isn't required if you can fly Kath well and use the rear arc.

I'll have to try this, thanks! My only concern is that Kath will once again be PS7, leaving Kavil as the only potential Phantom destroyer (with initiative he fires before Whisper). Given the prevalence of phantoms (and high PS ships in general) in the current meta, do you think this is a good idea?

Ive tried a list almost identical to that. Did not like it. Kavil gets smacked down fast since people know she is slow and easy to hit, yet spits out 4dice with a TL every turn, Keeping N'Dru in the fight, but getting his bonus was annoying and I found having the K4 and trying to always use Kath's rear arc really limited your play with her. I DO like the HLC on her though. Its 4 dice front and back and makes you care less where shes shooting at.

I think Kavil belongs in a mini swarm.

I found that build to work well on Kavil, but she needs more then two other ships to take the attention off of her.

99 points will not always be enough for initiative. Many Phantom builds bid with 98 or even 97 points. Personally I rather be moving after the Phantom any so I can see where it is. If you can somehow manage to get out of arc, they can't shoot and trigger ACD anyway. I don't she how you'll get out of arc though with a Y-wing. I'm not sold on Kavil, because at the end of the day its just a Y-wing. But now you have a scary Y-wing so its going to bring a lot of heat. Y-wings can die awfully fast when focused on. Engine almost seems like a must to give the Y some speed.

someone said the same thing: init bid against phantoms should usually be 2 pts. 1 pt is iffy. the Chiraneau + Whisper build by Morgan Reed is 99 pts. (And utterly devastatingly ridiculously powerful.)

Feedback arrays have been good phantom counters for me.
