Opinions on Rebel setups

By ace2184, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi everyone,

Aside from playing with the gf and friends on occasion, I haven't had a chance to meet up with others and play and X-wing events locally. I'd like to change that in the week or two. I have a couple thoughts on squad setups, but I'm wondering if they're too basic? The first I had in mind was 99 point squad:

Luke Skywalker

R7-T1

Proton Torpedoes

Horton Salm

Ion Cannon Turret

Proton Torpedoes

Prototype Pilot (A-wing)

Chardaan Refit

Prototype Pilot

Chardaan Refit

The only thing I can think to change, is maybe giving Luke both proton torpedoes? The second setup, with 100 points, is:

Dutch Vander

Ion Cannon Turret

Keyan Farlander

Autoblaster

Wedge Antilles

R2-D2

Outmaneuver

Flechette Torpedoes

That's all. I like running an X/Y wing combo, and in theory either use the A-wings as interference or Keyan to help Wedge out. Thanks in advance everyone.

You're going to find torpedoes to be increadily...unreliable in a grander scale of things.

If you're just out to have fun, don't worry at all about it--just realize that the drawback exists

Usually, the only one that sees any reliable use is the flechette torp because it'll stress a fair number of ships regardless of what you roll (and, with munitions failsafe, a miss just lets you use it and stress someone again :))

I don't really know what to suggest since I don't know what you have access to (or, more importantly, what you want to try because you should always be able to proxy in a casual environment, provided the opponent knows what you're running), but I'll take a stab and say you have the A-wing expansion plus rebel aces. I'd recommend trying:

Nera

*flechette

*flechette

*Deadeye

*Munititions fail-safe (Z-95 or Tie Defender expansion)

She should see even the most "basic" rebel squad through even the fanciest of ships by stressing them and cutting down on their maneuverability.

She's nothing more than just a B-wing against large ships, but running basic rebel ships are generally a good way to counter those

Thanks for the advice fickle, you're right on the ships I have, I don't have many, and mostly just looking to play for fun. I don't have the strategy or cards to play really competitively. I have the core kit, x-wing expansion, two y-wings, a-wing, rebel aces, hawk-290, e-wing(which I'm not really into, mostly because it seems like the pilot cost for e-wings is high) and I have the Outrider snail mailing it's way to me, though I imagine I'll have to get use to flying it. I'll have to play more and tinker with the lineup and get some more games under my belt, I haven't used the proton torpedoes much. More trial and error.
