training wheels

I'll be GMing at some point and just wondered if there's any good references for sessions to run just to introduce mechanics.

I feel like this would be good to make some a less climatic beginning to give more contrast when they get started for real.

Also was hoping to not give them a starting ship but instead work it into being a reward but this does effect alot of the possibilities with missions they can do hard to pay for a taxi with no cash.

Ive read a decent amount of stuff in the books. Maybe missing out on like 4 books.

I have a bunch of major plots but its getting started with smaller stuff and making characters for conversation i can struggle with.

The character dynamics with the pcs will be interesting.

A pacifist scholar

A lying martial arts performer

A psychotic assassin who supports crime

And a robot Heavy who is looking for friendship

There's a Beginner Box for each line (Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, Force & Destiny), which are specifically designed so you can flip to page 1 and start running the game, without any knowledge of how to GM or play it.

It teaches you the mechanics as you go. "You need to hide from some Gammorreans. Here are some ways you can hide, and here's how you make a skill check to find out if you succeeded."

"You need to fight. Here's how you fight."

"You need to make some social checks, here are the rules for social checks."

Etc. They're ideal for what you're talking about.

Try Trouble Brewing in the CRB (right up the back.) Its a campaign that suits beginners nicely, and it shouldn't be a challenge for most low-level groups. The beginner box is a good suggestion as well

Also the follow up from the Beginner Game, Long Arm of the Hutt. Its available for free on the FFG site.

Cool thanks for telling me about 'the long arm of the hutt',
I ordered the Beginners game, im still thinking i might try think of a game to run before using that. Because i want to establish my own story and not confuse my players with making new characters etc.
Ill have to check those folios a bit to make sure the group wont be underpowered for the missions.

Still i want them to be able to earn their first ship.

In "Trouble Brewing" it would have been cool for them to get the semi usable ship from Bandid Dobah but unfortunately need a ship in the first place for that mission lol.
In "Under a black sun" there is a starfighter but not really as useful for a starting party lol.

I just think something earned can feel more precious than something bought.
But i tested the mechanics myself and figured i definitely need to practice what i will do more before i go ahead so the beginner game will definitely help me farmiliarize myself with possibilities.

The adventure has it being a Starfighter, but he's a bounty hunter. He needs a ship big enough to carry bounties in. Replace the Z95 with the ship of your choice. Or have the Z95 be how he gets from his hideout on Coruscant, to his Wayfarer + hanger bay in orbit.
