HLC and Etahn

By Baaa, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi all,

Back with another question and any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Q. I fire an HLC and get two damage and one crit. I immediately change the crit to a normal damage. Etahn is within range 3 of the cannon. Does his ability change one of the damages back to a crit?

My own thoughts are that it can change it back, but would be grateful for feedback.

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers

short answer is yes

HLC only flips crits to hits immediately after the attack dice are rolled - any modifiers or re-rolls that subsequently turn blank/focus/hit results into crits will stand

Thanks for the quick reply, it's much appreciated.

I kind of thought that, but wanted to make sure.

Cheers

it also helps to remember that while a dice can only be rerolled once, it can be modified any number of times - and that the defender gets to modify the attack dice Before the attacker modifies them.

It can get pretty crazy sometimes, so little exercises can be fun.

Ten Numb with HLC, Calculation and mercenary-co-pilot, has 2 focus (thanks to Kyle Katarn), and a target lock on Tarn Mison with R7

Ten's wingman Etan also Tarn in his sights.

Ten declares a range 3 attack - allowing Tarn to gain a Target Lock on him,

Ten attacks at Range 3 and rolls Crit Hit Focus Blank

Ten immediately flips the crit to a hit - as per the rules for HLC

Tarn then uses R7 and spends his target lock to force Ten Numb to re-roll the two hits and focus

Result, Focus, Focus, Focus - plus the unmodified blank

Ten then spends his Target lock to re-roll the blank - scoring a Crit

He then spends 1 focus to use Calculation to flip one of the focus into a Crit

He spends a second focus to turn the two remaining Focus into hits

Then Mercinary co-pilot flips one of the hits into crits and Etan flips the final crit

Result prior to defence dice being rolled - Crit, Crit, Crit, Crit
