100 Points Imperium

Hello everybody!

After our first matches with only few points my friends and I are now going for bigger battles.

I scraped my imperial vessels and worked on some lists for 100 points.

Howlrunner + Swarm Tactics

Dark Curse + Shield Upgrade

2 Academy Pilots

Gamma Squadron Pilot + 2 Proton Torpedoes + Assault Missles + Ion Pulse Missles + Munitions Failsafe

or instead of the bomber

Delta Squadron Pilot + Assault Missles + Munitions Failsafe

So what do you think? Please give me your ideas, critics and suggestions.

Conventional wisdom dictates that any ship loaded with a lot of munitions, dies first to focus fire. Your Gamma would need 4 perfect rounds to get all that ordinance off. It won't last that long.

If your new to the game, more "generics" (basic low pilot skill ships, eg Academy) is the better way to go. You have less special abilities and conditions to remember. Flying a swarm, Howl, Dark Curse and the rest Academies would be fun and still be a learning challenge. Formation flying, planning ahead (who flies first) and using Academies to force your opponent to crash and lose actions can help you get used to the spaces on the board and judging distances and maneuvers.

Still, the best lessons are from flying what you love.

I think your bomber is very overloaded in your first list. 35 points for a single six-hull-point ships is just asking for a nasty ALPHA strike to take it out - and that's not to mention the chance of an secondary weapon crit killing 17 points of upgrades. You'd be very unlikely to get all four of those weapons off in the course a a game before dying.

In my experience bombers are best run in groups, or else left at home, so if you want to run them look at adding a second one. If you drop Dark Curse's shield upgrade you can then fit in two Scimitars plus eight points of missiles, torps or bombs. This may not seem like much, but you've just added another six hull points and removed a highly tempting alpha-strike target.

If you don't have a second bomber yet (I'm guessing that your collection is still growing?) then the Defender + mini-swarm is going to give you a lot more reliability.

Thank you for your replies so far. From what you told me I think I go with the second list with the Defender (and get me a second Bomber ;) )

I'm still pretty new to the competitive scene and the two biggest tips I can give are:

1) Learn to fly! Crashing into yourself and asteroids sucks. Your opponent is going to be trying to do that to you anyway, don't make their life any easier.

2) Don't load yourself up on fancy abilities and gadgets. I went to a tourny with this decked out list and in the heat of the game, forgot to even use half of it.

I like that defender list the most. What a fun ship that thing is!

I wouldn't put more than 2 Missiles/Torps on a Bomber. I have best luck with a Concussion Missile (as I roll blanks) and a Cluster Missile.
