Push The Limit vs Rebel Captive

By mikev3, in X-Wing

Hello,

Push The Limit elite talent is one of my favourite, especially on Dash. Since Rebel Captive is here, I'm searching a most efficient solution and I'm intetested in your opinion:

- Keyan Farlander with VI

- Tycho Celchu

- Nien Nunb crew (to escape from close range and to remove 1 stress easier)

- Corran Horn

- Roark HWK

I would like to read your thoughts.

The solution to PTL vs Rebel Captive is don't PTL when you have to shoot the Rebel Captive

Unless you're Tycho. Tycho gives zero ****s.

Hobbie Klivian as your primary Rebel Captive shooter.

Target Lock.

Declare the ship carrying the Captive as the target of attack

Get a stress

Shoot, use Target Lock, get rid of stress.

Give him R2-D6 and PTL for when the Captive is dead.

Fel doesn't really care too much about the Captive as well as it garners him a Focus to double or triple up.

Unless you're Tycho. Tycho gives zero ****s.

PSYCHO CULCHU \m/

Swarm tactics used to boost a rookie pilot is another option.

But the real answers already been given you don't have to PTL every turn.

Shooting with Ibtisam at a Rebel Captive will boost her as well, by the way, allowing her to reroll.

For what purpose are you generally Pushing the Limit? It's a very versitile upgrade, but the second action is typically the same, depending on which ship you equip it to.

You cant do the same action twice in a round.

I use PTL a lot on interceptors and A wings, usually to boost + evade or focus + evade as you can clear the stress with about 50 per cent of the dial the following turn.

Its also an 'auto include' when using tycho or keyan.... keyan loves it... target lock, barrel roll with ptl (or with evade if jans supporting) then his card abiity is like a free focus.

Tycho, yes, but not so much Keyan

Keyan can work SoT with an intelligence agent so hard it's not even funny

Had some fun yesterday shooting at a Rebel Captive in a Decimator with Soontir Fel. I simply maneuvered to have a shot each round and used Targeting Computer for a Target Lock, picked up the stress and a free Focus when I attacked, and hit the darn thing with 3-4 TL+F attacks every turn. Fel died without much in the way of defense, but did a heck of a lot of damage on the way out.

In the same way , if you can keep Keyan pointed at the poor Captive, he can pick up a Target Lock and use the stress as Focus. Tycho is obviously a great option because he just doesn't care. I like the idea of Roark as a solution, though, as he gives you some flexibility based on who has shots and who will best be able to clear the stress next turn. As an added bonus, Roark can bring Nien Numb along for the ride. I wouldn't use Corran as your solution; his greens are decent, but he's by far the most expensive option.

Wedge isn't a bad choice either, throw an r2 astromech on for good measure and you're golden

Tried keyan with SoT, much prefer PTL, its more flexible and tbh keyan with a HLC, if you're dogfighting and haivng to guess manouvres that much as they are so close you've probably make a lot of mistakes anyway.

I personally like the raw hitting power of TL & 'free focus' leaving you a focus for defense

I believe DraconPyrothayan is going with the idea that when you use PtL one of your actions will almost always be used each time. It's not the same action "twice in a round" but rather the same action "round after round" assuming you are using PtL that often.

As for using PtL when up against a Rebel Captive the solution is pretty simple: don't use PtL unless you need to.

Ah i read it as he was doing the 'same action' for the second action.

I see your point, didnt come across as that to me though.

I've seen a couple people who have thought you can boost twice with it despite it being really clear in the core rules you cant

I saw where you were coming from Gadge but just wanted to point out the other way of looking at it. It is one of those things that could be seen in a way that doesn't work but when viewed differently you wonder how anyone could screw it up.
