Gencon Roll Call

By Dobbler, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Well, we might still be almost two months away, but I figured I'd start a Gencon roll call to gauge how many people we expect to be there playing Thrones.

So first, list if you plan on coming. Second, list which events you plan on participating in. Third, if you plan on scheduling a player-run event, this is probably the best place to advertise it.

From our meta, myself, Kennon, Jeppedo, Nivek, Zeiler and Huseman have all said they are coming and playing in at least the Championship LCG Thrones events. I know me and Nivek will play in just about every Thrones event scheduled.

We have a previous thread where we I asked the event scheduled and Ktom asked the question of who is coming, but I thought I'd start a new thread.

Galonso, is there a particular reason you don't plan on playing?

Wade and I have already bought badges. I'm playing in Joust, Melee, Legacy Draft, and Legacy, but Wade will likely skip Legacy.

Three more possibles from our area as well, though they may only be playing Joust.

I will be there in my first trip ever to Gencon and my first AGOT tourney.. Should be fun. Already badged and registered for all agot events :-)

Cost of the whole trip and if I can get time from work are the two factors.

I'll be there and will be playing in as many (likely all) the AGoT events possible.

myself and another from DC will be there; i myself will be playing in the classic highlander and LCG joust and melee events. i'd like to see standard and/or cube events too, put together informally by us (maybe during the time of the "core set championship" or whatever)

I will be there and will play in at least one event but I may have a conflict with the Joust Championship and another championship. Since Greyjoy will not be legal for champs I put preference in the other championship. If I am doing poorly in that one I will drop to play thrones though. With a 1pm start time it allows for me to know where I stand. I will be there with one more who is in the same boat as me.

If the expansion really does hit store shelves in July as announced, those Greyjoy cards would be legal in the LCG championship events. Just FYI.

Just to add a small clarification on your post Venryk, Greyjoy is definitely legal for the championships. As Ktom say, if the Kings of the Sea expansion is released in July, then then its contents (which are mostly Greyjoy cards) will be legal. However, even if it got delayed, Greyjoy would still be legal, you just obviously don't have the expanded card pool to choose from to build a Greyjoy deck and thus are at a disadvantage to the other four houses.

Well for one I'm a new player and am still learning the environment and subtleties of the game. Secondly, I am a big Warmachine/Hordes player and will be competing in Nationals. I am hoping to make the finals this year. Its a three day event. If I dont make the cut, then Ill be playing AGOT.

Well, while I don't wish you ill in regards to Warmachine/Hordes, I do hope to meet you at the Thrones Championships. As for being a new player, I wouldn't worry about that. There are several very new players from our area that are coming to Gencon who are going to participate in the Thrones Championships. So you would not be the only new player. And based on your involvement in these boards and the game, I'm guessing you'll be well versed in the game come August.

~ So, at what point (size of field, odd number of participants, etc.) would you guys let me play as well as TO?

~ When people have the cojones to play a rush deck at worlds. :-P

lol... not only does it take cojones to play a rush deck, you also have to ignore all your dumb friends telling you that "control is more your style".

Sorry mathlete sonrojado.gif .

Considering that the competitive environment has changed since the implementation of the LCG format, and in my opinion the change is such that tournaments are localized and more "laid back", I have no problem if you play Ktom. But I will concede that there is a number (I'm not sure what it is) where it becomes unmanagable for you to play and judge at the same time.

I've never played anything but. GJ 60 card unopposed and GJ 45 card unoppossed. I was one cancel away from not losing to Tzumainn last year...

~ Just means that you, Lars, have cojones.

Seriously, though, I think the current environment may be friendlier to rush decks. Most control seems to be a little slower than in the past, and with more limited draw in the LCG, the control options and combos don't pour out of the deck the way they have in the past.

I think rush has always had a chance... if the top players actually decided to play rush. I recall last year Dobbler expecting folks to play rush and being disapointed... that he couldn't use the Bara traitor. And mainn had almost gone in with his exceptionally broken Greyjoy deck.

I didn't remember expecting people to play Rush, I expected people to play Jaqen. Although after facing mathletes greyjoy Rush deck last year, it was obvious he should have played it.

I appologize, my memory if rather holy.

One would think i'd have become a priest... [ The rest of this line has been removed ]

Could of, should of...Mathlete has changed his mind in the past TO control decks and done just fine as well. He was pretty close to top 8 (the winner between us in the last round advance if I remember right?), and then anything could have happened. That being said, GOD that GJ deck rocked. I think I beat it 1 out of 10 times (and that was the 2nd place deck).

I will be in Thursday afternoon, although I will only committ to the Joust at this point...however I always seem to gravitate to the aGoT area and will play whatever is going on at that time.

Can't wait to see everyone!!!

Matt/rings.

DeathJester, you coming?
