E-Web survival kit

By Tauntaun, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Hi,

I'm looking for suggestions on how to make the E-Web not be a waste of 6 threats on the same round it's deployed. Sadly, I've been really disappointed by this unit (or better, by the way I am using it). Every time I've deployed it, it become the 1st target of the heroes and ended up being eliminated in 1 round. Gaarkhan in particular is my E-Web bane. He can charge (eventually positioning with strain) and finish it in 1 round, and it happened too often for my taste.

Problems I've had:

  1. Maps are too small, with too many bends to make this unit really useful or with too many obstacles to hep Gaarkhan positioning in safe spots for charging.
  2. Units "protecting" it block its LOS.
  3. Heroes can just ignore it, and repositioning it it's a pain.
  4. Spaking of repositioning, if the deployment point is not a good spot for the E-Web, it's hard to move it where it can count. Officers can help, but still it's wasted rounds compared to other units.

It's the most damaging-per-cost unit of the game, but its usefulness is too spotty. Sometimes it can get lucky and place a good shoot, but there are more consistent units for the same cost. Considering the sum of dice for a Stormtrooper unit, the E-Web must shoot several times to be really useful. But it can't survive a focused hero team. A team of Stormtroopers instead require more attacks to be eliminated (making 3 or 30 damage it's still an attack)

So, how often do you use the E-Web? How do you position and how do you defend it? Any comments?

Good thread, had the same problem during my first campaign.

Giving it assault armor from the military might deck helps: the 2 extra health and black die reroll are always nice (plus it's important to remember that the attachment can be used again on another group after the initial deployment card is defeated).

Speaking about upgrade decks, the subversive tactics deck is a real pain in the arse cause it's all about straining. Strained out heroes means no more charging for Gaark or no more quick draw with Jyn.

If an imperial officer starts off on the map, it might be useful to have him wait around a deployment point for the e-webb to help it move off the start.

And I think it's smart to spawn it away from the action so the heroes can't prioritize it. Have them guard key hallways or mission tokens :)

I think it's one of the only models I'd consider deploying later in the game depending on deployment locations. It's much less of a push over if the Rebels are all strained out, or need to prioritize mission objectives.

The Eweb was my best unit, hands down!

  • The guy is a sniper (auto +3 accuracy) plus rolling the blue die gives a good chance of consistent 6+ accuracy. So if the situation is right place him at long sight lines that the rebels are going to have to come down.
  • I used it best in the thick of battle. By that I mean when you deploy him, put him around the majority of your units so there are a lot of distractions. There where times I would drop him in behind a group of storm troopers so the rebels would worry, but they saw his LOS was blocked. They would start to attack the troopers, get drawn in close then I would move my troopers out of the way leaving the Rebels wide open for the Eweb.
  • My imperial deck came into play a lot with them as well. Assault armor gave them a passive damage point + Show of force so they're focused for one shot + Sustained Fire for a 3rd attack when needed = offensive powerhouse! They where such hard hitters at this point the rebels in my campaign avoided them as much as possible rather than attack them.

If you play this guy right they're awesome! If your worried about them getting left behind, pair them up with an Imperial Officer. Between the two turns they could travel 8 spaces (which is a long way on any map!) and be ready on the next round to bring that red blaster rain!

I put a Trandoshan on either side of the Eweb. Once the wookie strains himself to get close enough for an attack, they either top off his strain or start dealing extra damage. And if you can hold out on taking the Eweb's turn until the wookie moves in that's 2 cannon blasts to his face.
