Providence Carrier Reporting for duty
NICE! Is it available on shapeways?
It will be at some point but I am waiting to get a hold of the armada models so I can make a connector for it. So it's compatible with the bases.
Also here's some others https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xaf1/t31.0-8/10974345_1010417728986955_396067309642935558_o.jpg?efg=eyJpIjoidCJ9
Edited by ZenziHow long is the Providence? Lovely work!
I am going to end up with so many shape ways ships....
I went with 6 1/2 inches which is probably a half an inch to long with the Victory begin apparently 5'5 inches long but that's fine. (to me at least).
Yeah shapeways can definitely be hard on the wallet.
6.5" is fine I think. It'll be a bit too big next to a Victory, but more in scale to the Neb-B and Corvette. With a sliding scale as long as it looks right, it's pretty much ok!
Do most people just use Shapeways? I have been looking at 3D printers and it seems like if you don't have less than 0.1mm resolution your print will look very rough. Which in order to get that kind of resolution one would need a printer that is way over my budget. Armada has already got me well into Ramen deficit eating as a graduate student so unless I find a sugar momma or win the lottery that probably won't happen.
I've got some X-Wing stuff from shapeways. Some of it is a little "grainy", other models are very nice. Overall it's very solid as long as you look at painted pictures first so that you have realistic expectations.
Fortunately, stuff comes out better on wider, flatter areas. I think Armada ships will be very decent.
I haven't yet bought anything from shapeways, but it is the only "public" 3D printshop that I know of. They have a wild selection of materials as well, but the price seems high to me. Then again I have no reference point.
Now if I had access to an industrial grade printer, that would be awesome.
Off topic : I personally find the price of 3D printing way off compared to the benefit for home use. Eg I had a broken bit of plastic in the fridge. It was way cheaper to jury rig a repair than to print out a two foot long piece of plastic.
Just don't get anything under the "strong plastic" category. I got a custom roleplaying miniature from kickstarter made that way and it came out extremely grainy which I found to be very disappointing.
