First game, REALLY fun and learned a lot

By Forensicus, in Star Wars: Armada

So I'm guessing if your ship goes off the board due to poor planning its effectively destroyed?

That's how we played it. Let me know if you will fare better

I'm assuming your friend wasn't under an NDA with the review box he got.

If someone is supposed to write a review, doesn't an NDA contradict the whole purpose? Or are you talking about a time embargo?

We weren't play testing or developing it. We were playing it in order to do a proper review. And I will be doing totally "open to the general public" demos with the kit so really no problem or reason to worry.

If anything this is just an added boost to the hype were all experiencing while we wait, right?

This thread is a sith-lightning blast of awesomeness!

I hope you will post more info on the rules and your impressions of the game. Its great info until we have something more. You are the best source we have right now!

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the extra smidgens of information, I just had a momentary concern for your friend that he wasn't supposed to let out anything new before a particular date.

As someone who used to work for a magazine/website that reviewed video games - it was up to the publisher if a review embargo was stipulated or not. Usually if there was one it was about the time of the release date, maybe a week prior - or in the case of a couple of rush titles by publishers I won't mention, a week AFTER the game came out. In general though the reason this happened in video games is twofold - one, sometimes the product isnt actually finished i.e has bugs, when being reviewed, or maybe multiplayer isnt properly working - but with a board game this shouldnt be an issue as Armada is "on the boat" - it cant really be "patched" between now and when it comes out.

The other more important angle for the publisher is to get all the press coming out at the right time - just before release, and this is where it could be relevant to Armada.

The consequences of breaking embargo from my experience could run from the threat of court action to just being taken off the review list, depended on the publisher, but we never broke any.

Either way, as players it would be great to see any pictures of cards and components and rules, but I also hope that your friend is aware if he is under embargo or not regarding any information being released.

+1 definitely my friend!

At this point, I don't care how many Bothans will die for us to get this information. :D :D :D

+ 10. The loss of many Bothans is acceptable, but the loss of a fellow poster is not. Hehe.

SO! Now that that is out of the way, can you spoil any of the unspoiled cards for us?

Maybe seperate them in categories:

Command

Upgrades

Crew etc.! :D

That should generate some fierce n' fervent discussion until we can get our collective hands on this most awesome of awesome (still haven't found a good replacement word :( ) boardgames of all time! :

And thanks for taking the time out to answer our semi-interrogative questions! Hehe.

And crits! Don't forget crits!

I see your points. But I'm pretty sure we are all in the clear and no one , not even a single Bothan, will suffer for this.

However I will take due precautions before jumping to actually doing detailed photos of more cards, cries and rule booklet. But keep tracking this tread for more info from the Holonet

Do you have any in-character juicy bits you want to share with HNN ?

If so, please PM me and it will be news the following day (Outer Rim timezone). In terms of the Wiki , there are a few cards that are unreadable on the released images that I'm wondering if you might help me with.

Heh heh heh! Someone should remind me to watch out about what I say and do when Mikael's around! These Press people!

@ Forensicus: This is fantastic! Collaboration!! I feel as though we're on the verge of something great, my friends!

A bit of 'forensics' work ehy? Get it? Get it? ^Elbows^ Eh?? Hehe. :P

Loyal Imperials want to know.

That meme might be 15 years old, but **** it is still so good.

I was hoping you could answer a question about terrain. Unlike xwing where the asteroids are the size of a ship and you fly around them, in armada I assume you actually have asteroid "fields". Can ships fly through these or do they prevent movement? I ask because I'm looking to do 3D terrain and need to know whether my asteroids need to be removable to allow ships to enter or hide in their borders.

We know from some of the spoiled navigation objectives that ships can fly through and overlap obstacles, just like X-Wing

So yes, they would need to be removable if ships cannot be placed easily on top of them.

In The news Articles about Armada they introduce the 3 different types of terrain (asteroid field, beris fields and stations i belive) at some point. Coudnt find the link right away. Im sorry. So there it says that fighters can move onto the base of those things unharmed while capital ships would recive damage from asteroids and more damage (crit i believe) from debris fields and get repaired by stations. As those also "intersect" (wrong word in game terminology, cant remember the right one) line of sight, and thus remove one die from the attack made through such an object, hiding in asteroids will be common practice for squadrons. Attachs made against them from capital ships usualy only have one blue die, sometimes 2 iirc.
