A note for future supplement development

Just an observation I want to make:

Second one is Unmatched Fortune, attaches to the outer columns. Once per session you spend 2 Destiny points to change the face of one positive die in the character's dice pool to another face adjacent to it. An "adjacent" face is any die face sharing an edge, not a point, with the rolled face. Unmatched Fortune can't be used with Force Dice (the 12 sided white one)

While a neat mechanic, this rule assumes you are playing face-to-face, with real physical dice.

It's 2015, this is not a wise assumption to make. I'll have to come up with a solution for my Roll20 games...

A solution is to use the DIE conversion chart, and roll a Actual DIE witha standard die roller and convert to see what Face is presented. Then the GM adjudicates what options are to the player.

Snark aside, it only assumes that people have access to the official product with which to play the game. Either the dice sold for the game or the dice app. Both of which will show you the adjacent sides. Not much of a stretch from someone selling a product for you to play the game.

I thought about the conversion chart as well. Sadly the conversion positions don't line up (at least on a proficiency die) with a random die I pulled from my drawer. Doesn't mean it's not an alternative as well. But I have to imagine that someone in the group will have an official die that will show you the correct sides.

Yeah, it's workable, just a pain when only one or two players have direct access to the physical hardware. In this case it's probably not too bad since you can assume that a player will always take the best option available...

Still, better FFG find out about this issue now instead of waiting until someone does something more complicated that requires physical objects.

The challenges of the information age...

So don't worry about the conversion chart lining up with the dice. Just allow a player to hop left or right on the chart and call it done.

Except that there are usually more adjacent faces on dice than two.

So half the number of total possible hops one way or the other. Done.

Seems reasonable.

Boost die, 4 faces, 2 hops left or right. Ability die, 3 faces, 1.5, round up, 2 hops left or right. Proficiency die, 5 faces, 2.5, round up, 3 hops left or right. Easy peezy.

That's an interesting dilemma. It's a cute mechanic, but you're right that it doesn't necessarily translate into the digital world.

If each die face is unique, then you can just look at the result you rolled and look at a real die and pick an adjacent face.

But if the die has two or more sides that match what you rolled, it's not going to be precise. I'd solve it by just picking one of the die faces which matches the result you rolled, and then choosing an adjacent face.

To be fair, though, the FFG Dice App allows you to see the adjacent faces, so it still works, and FFG are under no obligation to support non-official products, like 3rd party dice rollers, etc.

So the mechanic works, as long as you're using legit licensed products.
