Flechette Cannon and Tactician

By EvilEwok83, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Flechette Cannon -

Attack: Attack 1 ship.

If this attack hits, the defender suffers 1 damage and, if the defender is not stressed, it also receives 1 stress token. Then cancel all dice results.

Tactician -

After you perform an attack against a ship inside your firing arc at Range 2, that ship receives 1 stress token.

am I right in thinking the timing would work - flechette hits, gives stress + 1 damage, cancel dice. Tactician activates gives 2nd stress (assuming range 2).?

Yes, your interpretation is correct.

You perform the attack with Flechette Torpedoes Cannon (roll attack dice, roll defense dice, etc.), if the attack hits the defender receives 1 damage and 1 stress. You are now done resolving the attack, so "after you perform an attack" effects trigger and Tactician deals a second stress.

Page 10 of the rule book show us the steps involved in resolving an attack:

  1. Declare Target
  2. Roll Attack Dice
  3. Modify Attack Dice
  4. Roll Defense Dice
  5. Modify Defense Dice
  6. Compare Results
    • This is where we determine if the defender was hit.
  7. Deal Damage

After step 7, you can trigger "After you perform an attack" effects.

awesome, thanks.

awesome, thanks.

No problem!

Note that if you had Flechette Torpedoes Cannon on a ship with R3-A2 (stressbot), you could NOT put 2 stress on the defender, since R3-A2 triggers "When you declare the target of your attack", so immediately after step 1. In that case, after step 6, when applying Flechette's effect, the defender would already have a stress!

Edit: Meant to say Flechette Cannon (which has the "if defender is not stressed" restriction), not Flechette Torpedoes (which doesn't)

Except, of course, Flechette Torpedoes don't have a stress restriction. Only one on hull value.

Now currently nothing can take R3-A2 and a Flechette Cannon so no issue there.

Oops. I meant Flechette Cannon.
