Stress token limit

By yagyu, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I heard they capped the stress token limit to 3, can someone confirm this and or point to the ruling? thx

I'm fairly confident there is no such ruling. Atleast not from FFG.

Anyone that's played with Tycho usually brags about how many stress tokens they can load on during the game. So, definitely no limit.

Unless that is a change that has occurred, well, today, then no, there is no such limit.

Tycho Celchu with Expert Handling + Daredevil + Experimental Interface is a wondrous thing...

Just to be sure I did a scan through the FAQ (freshly downloaded) for all occurences of "stress" and there is nothing about any kind of limit to the number of them you can have.

There is no cap to stress tokens for pilots, although the same cannot be said for stress on players :D

Well, if we are still talking about stress tokens, there is probobly a practical limit when the player would subcome under the weight of all the tokens... But that figure is probobly well above 10 000 tokens so...

No limit. Also, beware that the site redesign has killed the FAQ link. It now links to version 2.1 instead of 2.2 (which had been up since late September)

I can't see how the FAQ link could have got screwed up by the site update. Maybe they were about to upload a new FAQ and the file names have gotten fouled up. I guess we need to stay tuned.

Captain Yorr's pilot ability cannot trigger if he has 3 stress tokens. That may be how you're confused...

I ran exactly that and ended up with 45 stress tokens, but I only mentioned it TWICE. Geez. :P

If they still had the old FAQ sitting on the server somewhere it's easy enough to accidentally point the link on the redesigned site to the wrong file. Either scenario works though. Important thing is that the currently available download is out of date.

I use multiple d20's to track stress on psychotycho. It saves a lot of time.

And can you point to where you heard that?

I think it would be great of you could only have 3 Stress tokens. That would just make it that much easier to get rid of it should you choose to. A thing about that is there would need to be a LOT of other changes to really have it mean anything because getting Stress tokens is something that just happens. A few newer abilities have stress thresholds that can't be exceeded if you want to use them but if you continually shot at a ship with a Rebel Captive on it round after round there is nothing to keep you from getting a huge stack of Stress.

A player in the Store Championship that I TO'd brought a Tycho build specifically to see how much stress he could put on Tycho.

Highest was 48 tokens in one game.

Jim

I regularly get about six stress on Wes + R3-A2 vs Rebel Captive builds before he either dies or the game ends.

48 stress wow I think my record is five on a ship.

I think the best I've done on Tycho is 8.

48 stress wow I think my record is five on a ship.

When that PtL + EI + Daredevil/ExpertHandling combo can easily net you three all by itself I see how one could gain 48 although an opponent with a stress causer (Flechette torps + Munition's Failsafe) could help get there much faster.

New goal: run Tycho and Crow, see how many combined stress and focus tokens you have by the end of the game.

Sounds like a great scenario for honing your survival skills:

Tycho (26)

+ Refit (-2)

+ Test Pilot (0)

+ PtL (3)

+ Experimental Interface (3)

+ Daredevil (3)

Kyle Katarn (21)

+ Engine Upgrade (4)

+ Moldy Crow (3)

+ PtL (3)

+ Nien Numb (1)

vs 65 points of Imperials. Rebels aren't allowed to shoot anything. Just stack tokens and count rounds until you die and see what your high score is (stress + focus + 1 point per living ship per round).

Trying to accumulate Focus tokens really cripples the Crow however while Tycho's ignorance of Stress means it is easy for that to grow and grow.

Yeah i did not think there was a limit either, but one of my game night players at our store was under the impression there was a 3 token cap. I shall inform him of the current state of stess tokens. Thanks guys.

Okay, I'll bite. Why 3 tokens?
